Have won a new (in the sence never used) 3084.

From H.Kerns page I have this information: 3084 1974-1996 Relais IV 050 082-7 DB schwarz, mit Kabinentender.
But unfortunately no mention of the motor type.

As this loco was produced over 22 years, I would like to find out if possible an approximate production year.

I have the following clues to give, so maybe members here have an idea.

It does not have a serial no. sticker underneath (indicates some age).
It is "made in Germany" (not Western Germany).
The cabin tender only holds the direction relay - no rear light bulb.
The motor looks like a standard DCM.
The copper lip for a smoke gen. is present.
The Engine Operation "panel" is present in the drivers cabin.

Can anybody help? Thanks in advance [:p]

From the carton, I will guess it an early one, 1974-1977 or so. I remember this subject was up only a couple of month ago, and someone stated the changes of 3084 during the years of production. Maybe somebody can find the link.

Kenneth

Thanks Kenneth. My short memory fails me. [:0] I can't remember reading it. I have searched and searched, but I don't seem to find the right search term.
Maybe another member recalls.

Did I make a list like this some time ago? I cannot recall.

According to Märklin Archiv:
1974 - 1981, simple cross head and wire type radius bar
1982 - 1983, detailed cross head, wire type radius bar
1983 - 1996, detailed cross head, bar type radius bar
This means that it was som overlap in 1983.

A photo of the 1974 - 1981 rods:

Thanks Svein.

Am still searching, I found a photo of yours in the topic Marklin 3084 Cylinder Linkage

EDITED: Entries crossing. That photo is the one.
This is the linkage on my 3084. So it is narrowed down to 1974-1981 and further down to 1974-1977 by Kenneths saying about the colourful carton (assuming it is the original box of course).

Thanks guys.

Hi Ian.

Found your topic, very good information in it.
Amazing having tyres on all driving wheels. Mine only has 4. Wonder why this was done for a period only.
