Hi all,
Just bought Faller kit no. 110113 Bonn Station.
I was wondering if anyone had built this kit and if they had come
accross any minor problems/difficultes while building the kit.
Has anyone fitted a lighting kit to it?

I have built it. The only issue I had was gluing the 5 sections together. Had one major collapse but suceeded.
I have installed LED lighting with individual LED's but now I wish I had used more powerful LED strips. If I remember corectly, you cannot replace the light in the central building once the roof is glued on. |

I've got the Kibri version of this station, which I'm yet to build. The Kibri version is larger at 990mm whereas the Faller is 790mm. And I like my buildings untouched, no fancy weathering for me! I'm with Ron on that one, and the buildings on his layout look just fine to me.

I have both! (Bonn is installed, Dammtor is being built.) As to the original questions, I had no problem assembling the five sections individually, but did have some issues getting them to sit together properly (I did not glue them together just in case I wish to reconfigure someday). One caution...if you wish to have Preiserlings inside the station, do it during construction or leave the roof loose. i had to cut my main section roof off to install them. I just finished the Faller Mittelstadt Station kit, which is basically the center 3 sections of the Bonn kit. Took me about 4 nights, and went well, except for joining the sections, which was a pain, as everyone else seems to think. Now I'm just waiting for my platforms to come in.
I haven't weathered any of my buildings, but gave them a spray of Testors Dull-Cote to get rid of the plastic sheen, I think they look pretty good.
Wish I had room for the full Bonn station too Ray....

I originally brought the Mittelstadt station kit, then I thought no I'd rather have the Bonn station. So when johnvandamme had the Kibri kit for 40 euros, I jumped. Sold my Mittelstadt kit to pay for the Bonn kit.
Testors Dullcote would be nice if we could get it here in NZ. US regulations forbid aerosols being shipped internationally, so I can't buy it off the internet.

Hi Ian. Bonn is probably the best of all the station kits and you will enjoy building. The outside and inside buildings are the same on each side so it is a bit repetitive.
With regard to lighting you want to experiment with this and add more lights than per the instructions.
As said above getting the five parts in line may not work but a file and side cutter can help. It is possible to add the platforms after all five parts have been built which could make it easier to line up but this is not per the instructions and not therefore advised.
There are further set of platforms which go with this station and these are also available with lighting which as Ron's pic shows makes the venture well worth doing.

It would be interesting to see if the addon Faller platforms would match the Kibri station. Not that I have room for them, the Kibri station at 1m is about all I'll fit in!
Kibri do have the covered platforms with the arched roof available as an extra kit.

Hi Big D. Your Kibri station is on a different scale to the Faller model so the platforms wont match. The Kibri version is taller and wider than the Faller one.
There is not a great deal of difference but the platform form design is not the same.

Hi Ian The Faller platforms for Bonn are 120191.
However you have to watch the spacing between your tracks. Using C track with the standard spacing when using standard turnouts you would need to use 120197.
I think you are using M track so I do not know the space between your tracks but if you measure and try where possible to have 4.8cm then you can use 120191 which comes complete with roofs to which you can add light fitting 120183 (one unit per roof.)

So much nicer once it is weathered For the most part, the only complaint (like everyone else) is that the main building platforms don't go togeather very well but, all in all, a very nice kit. A true classic |

I bought a collection of Faller kits a couple of months ago,all well built and weathered.I kind of like that look and now have including the Bonn station 6 new kits to build.I think I'll just wait till I
see them built up on the layout,before deciding if they should be
weathered lightly.

Yesterday I began building my Faller Bonn station! I haven´t finished buildings 1 and 5 yet! There are so many small parts and details! I like the part with the different combinations. I want to do it as an end station. That looks fun (but expensive!).
I´m not gonna weather it. Nor with my Faller military buildings. |

I have not glued the roof, or the cieling which holds the bulb over the central hall section. I found that the light in there is too bright with the cieling in place. When you have installed lighting in series throughout the station, it looks very realistic.In all, it takes about a dozen or so bulbs. I also cut some of the black window masking away from a few of the second story windows to allow light out. I have mildly weathered the light tan brick with a mix of charcoal/white acrylic mixture. The finials over the center entrance are painted with a bronze copper hue to make them appear to be that material. Have FUN!

It took me two weeks to build mine. I didn't glue the roof on because I wanted to be able to change out the lights in case they went out. Once built and weathered it looked really nice. |

It took me 3 days (nights) to complete mine. I´m gonna add some signs when I know how to place it. I´m planning (read: wants) to do modules 180*60*3 cm foam. I haven´t glued the roof on either. |

HI, Re Faller Bonn Railway Station N gauge. Can anyone tell me in the N gauge model what is the ground footprint (length x width) of the 3 component parts(the 2 end buildings are the same as are the 2 long side buildings either side of the Central entrance/Booking Hall). So it's really only the three building's footprints I need;.... the end building,the long side building and the Central entrance/Booking Hall. I have asked and looked everywhere on the net,on various adverts for the product and even e mailed Retailers with no luck whatsoever. I need to know so that if I change the layout of the 5 parts to see if I can fit it on my layout as my Terminus building. Many thanks, Les

But can I find the Faller brick walls to go with the Dammtor? The only way currently seems to be to get the Faller S-bahn station  Wish they would do the other elevated sections as classic kits.

I bought my Bonn Kit from Kibri in the late 80' just before i had to take down my old layout.
Finally i got a chance to rebuild a new layout and plan to add the train station, Still have to build it with 4 section of dome cover and extension.
