Some time ago I bought this locomotive for a very cheap price, about $45. It has no box but the condition of the locomotive was ok for me. The seller told me that his father was from the netherlands and he bought this loco and the TEE 3071 in one of his travels. Today I was looking to the Koll's book and I got very impressed with the price for the loco with the number 1212, version one or two. My loco has that number.
Does any one knows why this loco has such price?

Here are some photos of my loco

Hi Eduardo,
The yellow top side in front of the cabin windows is pretty seldom.
However, even more seldom is the version with vertical supports in the ventilation grids on the sides, from your pictures it would seem your loco does not have that.
Found a German seller on internet asking euro 2,000.- for that version

Hi again Eduardo,
Please go to Google, search for: marklin 3055,select pictures, and you will find the very seldom 3055/1212 in the second row on the far right side, picture by williwill.de.
On the picture you will see that the vertical supports on the ventilation grids are clearly casted.
I would not pay Euro 2,000.- for this loco,i have a darkblue colored 1200 with A-configured headlights and conventional motor,it looks brandnew and runs well, complete with the well-known Marklin coffee-grinder sound!
There have been many different versions of the Marklin 3051/3055,both in blue and in grey/yellow color, some have the old-fashioned L-configured headlights, also various loco numbers on the sides have been used.
These locos have pulled fast passenger traffic on the main lines, also heavy freight traffic, when these locos pulled into a station,it always looked very impressive.
For the blue versions,Marklin also issued some coaches in tinplate (4049 for example),i still need to purchase those.
A string of 4-axle coal cars or chalk cars is also a good match for these locos.
Some were taken over by ACTS,a private railcompany in Holland, they painted them azure blue with a wide yellow stripe over the full length,Marklin also issued one of these not so long ago.
Keep it in your collection,it is too nice too sell!
Best regards,
Paul.

hi,

Is the yellow or grey front above of the loco? (not the cab roof).

The area in front of the front windows, that is the area between the headlights and the front windows should be yellow to make it a seldom series, usually this area is grey to protect the engine driver from sun glare.

I would like to share my love for the NS 1200 series with the other forum members by telling a short personal story,i hope you like it.
When i was in compulsory military service back in 1976-1977,every sundaynight i travelled by train from Rotterdam to my army base (on a free government ticket).
Pretty close to my final destination,i usually had to wait for some 30 minutes for my local connection.
During this waiting period, usually a NS 1200 blue loco would pass with approx. 130 km/h,pulling a string of blue NS coaches,on the stretch Amsterdam to Maastricht.
I could see people reading papers and magazines, not having a care in the world.
Such a passing i found always very impressive, the NS 1200 gave the impression that nothing would be able to stop it.
After getting out of the local train,i needed to walk some two miles to the army camp.
And again, usually a NS 1200 with some 20 4-axle coal cars (German Fals type) would pass me by at a steady pace, ploughing its way through the night.
During those nights,i felt like the most lonely guy on the planet, having to do what i had to do,dreaming of a more glamerous life, wild adventures elsewhere in the world, meeting the woman of my dreams,etc.etc,etc.
Anyway, the NS 1200 made a lasting impression on me,and come to think of it,i might collect one or two of these in addition to the one i have.

I really like the NS1200, pictures can never make it justice, looks & feels so much better than it does on photos. Just like the NOHAB:s...

I had an old blue one for repair some years ago, massive loco indeed...

Greetings All,
For pictures of the various Marklin versions of the NS1200,please go to: www.bordertrain.net.

Scroll down the list of Dutch locos to the 1200 series.
The very rare 1212 with the full yellow noses and vertical supports in the ventilation grids is also shown, only produced in 1972,apparently.

Also further down in the list is the 1607 (Marklin 3326) which i purchased last week via internet.
The loco has special text on the sides.
In 1989,Dutch national railways celebrated their 150 years anniversary, the big black logo on the loco commemmorates that.
Because of that, loco 1607 pulled a record of 60 full length intercity coaches with a total weight of 2,600 tons between Kijfhoek (close to Rotterdam) and Breda.
Marklin also issued a set 4391 with three intercity coaches having special text on the sides: 60 De Langste Reizigers Trein Ter Wereld (60 (coaches)The Longest Passenger Train in the World).

The French built 1600/1700/1800 series have taken over the role of the earlier 1200 series, they can be spotted day and night all over Holland, used for intercity trains, freight trains, and local traffic, pulling or pushing double-deck passenger commuter trains.
Also this loco type is rather impressive when you stand close to it.
At Haarlem station, you can see them pulling in with a string of 10 to 15 intercity coaches,a spendid sight!

Another Marklin model of the NS 1200 series is the 3168,this time in yellow/grey with combined yellow/red headlights.
I think i will search for that one, costing around Euro 120.- on internet.

Thanks for the link,i am very tempted to buy one from Marcel right now,if i am not able to contain myself.
You will note that the 3168 has a grey coloured nose on top.
The Dutch NS PTT postal motorised units are also very attractive i must say, various versions have been issued, with different colours and styling, hood is plastic, not metal, apart from that worth collecting,at a fair price.

Re: RayPayas:

Have bought the 3168 from Marcel.
Next dilemma: shall i run it with a string of 4-axle coal cars (German Fals type),or with another set of Dutch intercity coaches?

Just picked up the 3168 NS1200 in grey/yellow from the local postal agency.
Thank you,Marcel, the loco looks like new in her original Marklin light blue and orange old style box, including the original maintenance instructions.
You packed the loco in a proper way, including the use of plastic airbags.
Also inside the Marklin carton, you used additional plastic cushioning, very well done package job!
