Hi All.

Can anyone tell me which year Marklin changed over to the long slimmer box with sliding cover from the old light brown box with a lid? (I know, it's a long shot but it will be of great help to me.

All the best,
Chris.

Hi Chris,

Check this out...

http://www.maerklinist.de/pages...dell/kartons/kartons.htm

The webpage is in German, but you will be able to see the changes that Marklin made with the packaging.

I hope it helps.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Chris, I asked a similar question 12months or longer ago. Did you mean the "woodgrain" boxes with a man balancing an 8800 0-6-0 tank loco on the stem of his pipe as an attractive blond lady looks on? If so, the answer I got (courtesy of Steventrain if I remember correctly) was that they were discontinued "in the early 1980s". Hope that helps.

Hi Guys. Many thanks for responding.

I looked at the three websites, which are very detailed, but, sadly, they only cover HO. However, I think Gary has given the answer I am looking for. I will see if I can find the original thread.

Again, thanks.

Hi Steve.

I assumed that as it was posted in the 'Small Scale' section of the forum that only those interested in Z scale would respond. How is it that the bigger scale readers are picking it up?

As Gary wrote, I was referring to the changeover from the 'wood grain' boxes to the sleeker boxes with an image of the loco on the front. There was another change later to transparent fronted boxes. It would help me it anyone could tell me when that happened. That's a bit more difficult as I believe there was an overlap there.

I ought to add that the reason why I want to know this info is so that I can get a rough idea of how old some of the HEM (and other) models I own are.

Thanks for the interest.

Best wishes,
Chris.
