I have the ICE 2 set "29790" and I need to install interior lighting.

I had done this before with another ICE 2 set I had, but I didn't like it, so I sold it. My big problem was the intermediate car(s), as the cab control car had already electrical connections. Namely, I had installed a pick-up shoe and a ground spring per intermediate car. The problems with that configuration were the following:

- while the spring fitted each car fine, there was actually no pick-up shoe to fit ICE 2 intermediate cars. I had to do some modification on the pick-up shoe which was not very stable.

- the train had many pick-up shoes, so it was slow and made noise.

- if I needed to control the interior lighting digitally, I should put a digital decoder per intermediate and cab control car.

Has anybody implemented a solution such as the one of the expensive ICE 2 set 39711 for the electrical connections between intermediate cars?

Yes, this was mine, but I haven't followed it up, so as to see all that information.

I have done a conversion but the method I've used would be to complicated to copy.
my ICE 2 has 2 motors (2 motorcars) with 10 intermediate cars.
on each coupling I've superglued 6 contacts 2 on each side and 1 on top & bottom.
I had 1 decoder and all wires (6) had been extended through the whole train.
1st wire: red = 2nd pickupshoe (2nd motorcar)
2nd wire: orange: common wire.
3rd wire: light for 2nd motorcar (white)
4th wire: light for 2nd motorcar (red)
5th wire: Aux 1
6th wire Aux 2.
all cars had led's.
I'm reconstructing the wiring by adding a function decoder into the 2nd motorcar.
This will eliminate the red wires and wires for headlighting(reverse) (2nd motorcar).
having 10 intermediate cars there is also a function decoder in the bord car, this function decoder will be removed and used in the 2nd motor car.
The end result will be as follows:
1st wire: orange common
2nd wire: Aux 1
3rd wire: Aux 2
the interior lighting is seperated into 2 circuits.
the wires from motorcar I will supply lighting for 5 cars and the same with the motor car II.
Car 5 and 6 will have no electrical connection as it would interfere with each decoder.

Would you happen to have a picture of the contacts? What did you use?
I have the same problem with my ICE 2 lighting. I have a thin black wire running from the control car to the intermediate car with a tiny plug (The ones which are at the end of the pick up shoe wires). But on complex curves, the train sometimes derails if the wire snags.

I tried doing that, but I think the copper contacts I was using were too thick, so they did not stay on.

Gauntham, if you read the thread I posted a link to in my first post here, you will see that Lutz gives the part numbers for the copper contacts, and also the complete coupler with copper contacts.
