I picked up a digital ICE2 set over the weekend that has the station anouncement feature built in. Could someone please translate it for me? I know the first word is "please" but after that I'm lost. I should have paid more attention in German class in highschool! [:p]

If it is the generic announcement, it is "Bitte Einsteigen, Tueren Schliessen. Der Zug Faehrt ab"

The direct English translation is "Please Step In, Doors Closing, the train is driving off".

The proper English translation is "All Aboard, Watch The Closing Doors, The train is departing"

Some announcements also state "Vorsicht bei der Abfahrt" or Mind the Departing Train. I guess that is for people on the platform and not for those getting on the train.

I don't think I've heard "Mind the step", though it might be on stations I haven't used.

I have the Koploper set 37421 - great piece by the way. It too has a station announcement. Would one of our Dutch collegues please translate that for me?

I also just picked up an ICE 2 over the weekend, Marklin number 36711 to be exact. Well, it's not listed in the database in either of my Mobile Stations. The manual says to try 29790 which is also not present in the database. It does work when I assign it as 02, but the functions don't display properly. I can get them to work by randomly pressing buttons and the train itself functions perfectly otherwise. Anyone have a recommendation on setting it up correctly?

That's the set I got as well. I used 29794. It's in the database and so far mine is working fine. Hope this helps ya!

Thanks, Mike! Mine has the longer anouncement. It's the 36711. Interstigly, mine had two coaches instead of the restaurant car. Still nice,though, and the price was fair.

Here they say:
"Bitte einsteigen, Türen schließen selbsttätig, Vorsicht an der Bahnsteigkante"
(and that's rougly what I remember from my M* E 10.12 (I will listen carefully when I play with it the next time)).

Translation: "Please get in now, doors close automatically, pay attention at the edge of the platform".
That fits the Rheingold and modern trains with automatic doors.

In my youth they used to say "Bitte einsteigen und Türen schließen, Vorsicht bei der Abfahrt des Zuges" (Please get in and close the doors, take care while the train is departing) as the local trains didn't have automatic doors then.

These announcements are aimed at everybody on the platform: those who still want to enter the train ("get in") and those who will stay ("pay attention").

That's true. I forgot that the ICE has the announcement for the self closing doors. I have to check whether any of my other models (loks/ Gottardo) have that as standard sound. Oh, well, guess that gives me an excuse to pull the Gottardo out of the box tonight. :)

True, I used to visit London a lot during the 1960's on training courses and I remember the "Mind the doors" coming not from loudspeakers but from the platform personal in their black uniforms.

I checked the station announcement of my Rheingold E 10.12 and it goes:
"Bitte einsteigen, Türen schließen selbsttätig, Vorsicht bei der Abfahrt"

Translations:
"Please get in, doors close automatically, pay attention while the train is departing" (me)
"Please enter now, doors close automatically, be careful while the train is leaving" (myself)
"Please enter, doors close automatically, caution with the departure" (babelfish)
"Getting on self-closing doors, be careful on the descent" (google)

google has the funniest translation. [}:)]

Note: The ICE announcement could be different ...

Sorry to keep you waiting with this one. My koploper was in its box, till this evening. It says (twice):
"De sneltrein naar Zandvoort aan Zee van 12 uur 44 komt over ongeveer vijf minuten binnen."
Translation: "The intercity to Zandvoort aan Zee of 12.44 will arrive at about 5 minutes".

Meaning: the train that is scheduled to leave at 12.44 hours, to Zandvoort aan Zee (= popular beach for people from Amsterdam), will arrive at this station in about 5 minutes".
This train (nowadays at 12.45, and 13.15, 13.45, and so on) will make a stop at the beautiful station of Haarlem and will arrive at Zandvoort at 13.12.

It's an common anouncement for Amsterdam central station, but it's a bit funny: this intercity train will not be a Koploper. More likely a loc like 37263, NS 1800, with about 10 coaches. And: such anouncements will be made only if that train is delayed.

So: not a Koploper, and not leaving at 12.44 hours biggrin

I find it slightly amusing that a train would have an announcement that the train (which would already be in the station) would be arriving in 5 minutes. How do they manage that?

Unless of course the announcement is referring to the next train and not to the Koploper itself.

I guess you better move your Koploper out of the station... Sounds like an Intercity is coming down the tracks.

Well, it's supposed to be a station anouncement, not a train anouncement, isn't it? But you're right, it's not referring to the Koploper.

Sounds like nitpicking to me.
The announcement sounds perfectly normal to me,these sort of announcements you can hear on all sorts of stations in the Netherlands.
Surely,the announcement has nothing to do with the train already in the station,it has to do with a train which is expected to arrive shortly,perhaps delayed,for whatever reason (nitpickers on the tracks?).
And who says the announcement refers to a station in Amsterdam?

I checked my 39421 Re 4/4I. I knew that it had a German (DB) announcement. Trying for the first time, I noted it has the same announcement that HO's E 10 12 has. My 39540 Gottardo also has the same announcement.
I don't remember whether the Gottardo had remote opening doors or whether the doors had to be manually opened like the EWI and EWII coaches.
In any case, I prefer the announcements that I programmed into my Loksound equipped Roco Re 460 and Re 6/6.
