Hey guys, me again:)

So I bought 2 locos off a guy on ebay, one of these is a Marklin 39353 class 152 engine.
This model comes with c-sine engine, long distance headlights and a horn.
Unfortunately when this item arrived to my horror it was actually a basic delta model with an AC motor.
Of course I had paid through paypal and was fully protected so I started a dispute and the seller was very sorry and had made a genuine mistake.
So he agreed to my terms of a 50% refund and I keep the loco. I was happy with this because that will help pay for a new loksound decoder:D

There is plenty of room for the loksound however I have a couple of issues.
First of all, this loco has LED headlights/marker lights. I believe the circuitry for the LED's is built into the decoder so I don't know if I can wire these straight up to the loksound without needing an AC/DC converter?

Second, this model has long distance headlights. Now with the delta decoder these can't be used but I was wondering if I could wire them up to the loksound as a seperate function or if these loksound decoders are only able to have the sound functions.

I would be looking at installing the ESU loksound 52486.

Lastly, I will of course need to upgrade the engine to DC. I'd like a 5 star high efficiency from Marklin. Do Marklin sell the engine upgrade by itself without a decoder?
Or is there another alternative product that does?

Thankyou all for taking the time to read and reply, I really appreciate it!

Eric, you can buy the individual motor parts, most dealers should be able to get them for you. Alternatively, you can order kits for each motor type from ebay seller Kikiluky, which usually cost around 30 euros.

The motor part numbers are listed in this thread:

I assume you have a 34353, in which case will have a DCM motor.

You may need to search for the dealer from ebay.de.

Sometimes dealers don't publish their stuff worldwide, so if you access from ebay.com, the dealer may show as having no items for sale.

Try http://shop.ebay.de/merc...Q_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

There are 8 items listed. You want the first one, "Märklin 60901 Hochleistungsmotor"

Oh, and BTW, "he" is a she!

Excellent, I have purchased it.

Now its just a matter of the LED's and extra function.

Thankyou for your help!

And I should have mentioned that Kikiluky will take Paypal if you request it.

Everyone has to accept paypal now, its an ebay requirement that sellers offer it as a means of payment:)

I think that's only for "new" sellers until they have sold a certain number of items, at least in Europe.

check out http://maerklin-back-on-track.blogspot.com if you like to see how old Märklin locos are brought back into life! (in spanish by the moment)

This will make it easier for you all to understand the situation.

Lutz:
number 2 is not an option as the reason I kept the loco was to convert it to full sound affects.
As for number 1, I think keeping the delta decoder will just make things more difficult. The catenary contact is not important, the mode of operation is automatic with the loksound too. The only concern is these pre-resistors for the LED's. I should be able to just wire some resistors in series as an alternative to that anyways.

Also, I was reading the instruction manual for the Loksound 3.5 and it will actually run a standard Marklin AC motor too - though I have already purchased a 5 pole anyways, its just interesting to note.

At the moment I'm just enquiring with ESU about having a spare function output for the highbeams. Apparantly the 8 pin PCB Loksound 3.5's have 2 spare auxiliary outputs for this sort of thing but the pre-programmed decoder doesn't come ready for this. As a result I may have to purchase a lokprogrammer myself or pay extra for them to do it prior.

You shouldn't have to pay extra for them to programme the decoder.
