Ok here is the problem lately i have been getting a stop and go on the track, my question is when do i know i have to feed wire to other sections of the track and what is the easiest way to go about this, i have recently changed my track to 3 main lines, the layout dimensions are 13' Long by 6', i have cleaned the track, and i know its not the track or the locomotives since all of them do it, it appears that it happens on some particular areas and not in others, i am using the MS station along with the booster that came with it, friends say that this should be enough power, so what gives, i have stopped doing scenery until i can get this sorted out!
Keep em on the rails!

What Trafo.are you using? More than one? every current drawing issue must be considered. Lighting, turnout lamps, decoders, signals, maybe you just have a bad rail join connection?

No turnout lamps, no decoders, no signals, nothing lit, i am using the 60VA transformer, i will then have to check each and every connected track, cause i am really just FRUSTRATED here!
Keep em on the rails!

One thing that I have noticed is that the center rail on c-track will rust. If you may have gotten some H20 on the track while working on scenary and this could be your problem. I carefully spray some WD4O on the section with issues and wipe it off. Ususally problem solved. You might want to give this a try.

Ivan,

are you using one MS for all three main lines?
You don't specify if you are using M, K or C Track.
Take the sections where you are having problems, remove the track, inspect the connections, clean the track and reinsert reversed.
Does the problem still occur?
If you have extra track, you can replace those track sections. Does the problem still occur?
You might also have to inspect the adjactent track sections to look for contact problems.
It is also possible that the third rail might be a little depressed, which can cause the slider to have intermittent contact over a few studs.
In addition to testing with a locomotive, a coach with lighting is also a suitable way to test at low speed, as the lights are at full intensity and you can move the coach by hand inch by inch (mm by mm).

Regards

I have a similar problem with MS, though a curve turnout, C track. But only with certain locos.
I have replaced the turnout, no effect.
I think I will try Mike's idea, using a lighted coach. Thanks Mike.
I don't get the same problem if I use the CS, and I guess that is because it delivers more power to the track.

I have a cut track nearby, so it does not have the advantage of the normal C track connections. I am guessing that certain locos depress this nearby track, so there is a very small current flow across a gap, so creating a momentary invalid signal, which disrupts the flow of digital information.

By the way Ivan, could you alter the subject to "Frustrated by momentary track interruption" or similar?
regards
Kimball

Ivan,
With a MS, it has a limited power supply.
Does your MS automatically switch to an off position at all ?
Your connection track ? Put your loco onto this track and see what's happening.
It is a start and go from there if there are more dead stretches.

Kimball.
C-tracks have some design faults.
some of my tracks, the outside track has seperated itself from the contact underneath the track
the centre tungue could lift up your loco aswell and it could be one of the reasons.
Take your loco at very low speed over the turnout and see were it stops. lean the loco over at an 60% angle and see what section of the turnout and what section of the loco is effected at this point.
See whether or not the loco is liftet at any point while traveling over the turnout.

Clean your track and check your connections. It's all about conductivity. K, M , C makes no difference.

Ok folks, i cleaned the track with a cotton T and some WD40, only on the studs, after running the trains on this line the problem appears to have completely gone away, now i will do the same for the other inner 2 lines, what is weird is that after i run the trains for a while the problem pretty much disappears, i also i ran that cotton T under the locos slider and then wiped it dry, like i said i am only using 1 MS and the 60V Transformer that came with it, i do have a lot of track down, but others have said that should not be a problem, as far as the outer line it appears solved, i am just hoping that its gone for a while, man i hate getting frustrated! [:(]

The reason the problem disappears after you have run your locos for a while is because the slider "grinds" any oxide off the center rails.

Your slider should be replaced if it has been used for a long time.
clean the slider, using a cloth with some cleaning liquid but make sure the liquid does not flow to any gears or tracktion tyres.
Another reason could be your drivingwheels are also dirty. use the same method.
