Hello All,

Today I have purchased my first k83 decoders, since they are now in discount with my dealer; 4 pieces for 100 euros. Until now I only used DIY decoders.

The k83's came with two 1500 Ohm resistors each. In the manual there was no reference whatsoever to these resistors. Can anyone tell me what these are for ?

BTW, I was shocked by the emptyness of the decoder boxes...
BTW2: I have not tried them yet

You can use them for bridging power to stopping areas, e.g. rail sections that are controlled by signals. There will be enough power to maintain the engine decoder memory, however not enough power to move the engine. This setup is not required using newer loco decoders, as the decoder memory is better now.

Not every decoder 'remembers' the last command received, especially DCC ones. There is a time for a complete discharge of capacitors and the loss of charges in junctures of transistors in chips. If the decoder doesn't write the last command in eeprom, it will be lost after some time. The IB and 6021 resolve this point thru a 'refresh cycle', so in most cases the 1K5 resistor is not needed. At least, this is my understanding...

Thank you guys !

Since I slow down and stop my trains with digital commands only, I keep full power on the stop sections, so I will not need the resistors.
