Greetings

This problem is related to one of the engines on the 29854 DB LARGE DIGITAL STARTER SET

I have been using both trains from this set with no problems for the last 3 months until last night, when the E40 072 Locomotive suddenly stopped and started to make erratic noises with the whistles.

Every time I put this engine on the track it starts to make this weird noises and it will not move in any direction nor respond to any commands.

The other engine from this set works fine at the present time.

Could some one please give mo some advice... any idea what could be causing this problem?

Your response will be appreciated

Thanks
Al

Sounds like a bad decoder. If your set is under warranty, send the faulty engine to Marklin in New Berlin, WI. Their service is excellent.

Yes, if under warranty then send it back for repair, if not then perhaps you could remove the body and check the wiring, check for the obvious loose or broken wire, in particular check the ground wire to the frame, a brown wire screwed onto the frame somewhere. If this is loose it could lead to some erratic behaviour. I know that if a loco with horns encounters a loss of earth ( for whatever reason ) the resulting "power or data spike" can result in the horn(s) activating...

Al, welcome to our forum.

In addition to the other tips...

First of all, I would put a drop of oil at each end of the motor axle, since the rotor in the motor could be "stuck" and give erratic decoder behaviour due to decoder overload. If this does not help, I would also suspect a faulty decoder.

If it is under warranty, I would take it back to the dealer and claim warranty repair. This of course suggests you bought the set in the US. If it was bought overseas from eg Germany, the German dealer would also honor the warranty but it would take more time and add some postage fees...

Greetings

Thanks everybody for your reply.

I sent the Loco to The service Center and it was repaired under warranty.

Regards
Al

And it works fine now? Did they tell you what the problem was?
