What Era/Country/place are you trying to model? A lot can be done in that space but we need to know if you are going for a large main station, single/double track main line, mountain pass, etc? Once you make those kinds of descisions track plans can be drafted and the LONG and extremely FUN part of the layout begins.
Also, C-track I assume? Or are you willing to change to K-track which in my mind will look a LOT better, especially if you are going for a main line look?

Tivvy thanks so much for your response, i want a double main line, i don't really want a station but will be adding a turntable for my steamers, this particular layout will not be modeled after any particular area, more of a free style thing, this is after all my first layout, if u go to the ME AND MY LAYOUT SECTION you can see what i have done so far, but i need help with maybe what it would look like on a computer, also it will be C-track since i have already bought tons of it and buying K-track would be too costly at this point, again thanks a million!

Ok. Are you confident with trying a multi-level layout as a hidden yard is usually something best included at the start of a layout.

Can the base areas be extended in width as 30" isnt enough to fit r2 curves in? Extending to be able to fit an r4/r5 mainline or helix in would be absolutely ideal.

Either way I will knock up something after work in the next couple of days for you.

Ivan:

These layouts from the Marklin Magazine are a great source of ideas. Just click on the download to look at layout designs from the magazine.

Now i am a little more happy, as i have been a little frustrated trying to muster up my track plan, once i have that going to where i am satisfied i can start doing some landscaping and adding other things!biggrin

Bigdaddy, thanks a million i read it and love it, i think my plan is going to be to make the outer curve R3, with the inner part an R2, and the very inside an R1, so now it looks like i can do 3 main lines with the inner part having some sidings to rest the locos, i will also try and make it a 2 level operation, even if it means independent running of the main level and the upper level, we will see............biggrin

How much length do you need beyond a turntable? Working on a plan now.

How long are the stall tracks (the short tracks that hold locos)? And how many do you want/need? I am working with the standard 15 degree track spacing at the moment.

Also, what is the depth of the center section?

Do you want a shadow station, ? My current thinking will likely include one however it could be skipped. Also, how long is your longest train?

Ivan, you need 600mm (24") from the centre of the turntable to the back wall of the roundhouse.

Ok Tivvy the center section is 32" wide, i would be happy with 5 short tracks, my longest train is my BR64 with six passenger cars that measures exactly 42" in length, i don't know about a shadow station i am already in over my head, LOL, but i am having fun running the trains and thats what counts!biggrin Again thanks a million for what ever u can come up with!

Red is the lowest level, blue is the middle level and black is the upper level.

The layers are fairly self explanitory in their locations. The very right side should be a mountian/valley which allows for a bridge just near the station exit crossing the valley. Smile

If you would like any changes made let me know. There should also be a set of curved turnouts up in the top left of the plan at the station entrance. More tracks could be added to the station/yard as well depending on how many points you have available and how many trains you want to fit. A shadow station is also a possiblity if you would like.
