Hi there,

I just have acquired a Lufthansa Airport Express set (2856) off eBay. I have not yet received it. I cannot tell from the photos what kind of couplers the coaches have (I intend to buy one or two more coaches).

Can anybody who have the same set tell me what sort of couplers the set coaches have?

Regards,

Cem.

Ah - so it was you!! Had my eyes on that one as well, but I managed to get the 3471 set instead Smile.

Take a look at this auction pic from ebay.de:

I'd say these are the standard relex couplers.

You can shorten those relatively easily to give close coupling - there are a few threads about this on the forum. Plus the only part you are modifying is the coupler head, which can easily be replaced if resale value bothers you.

Hey Richard,

Small world eh? biggrin

How is 3471 different from 2856?

Matt hi, thanks for the tip, I think I'll change them. And if the cars are suitable, I'll install current conducting couplers - have a box of them lying around for a year now Cool

Current conducting couplers will be a bit harder to install, as they are intended to plug into NEM pockets which these coaches don't have. The couplers on these are attached in the same way as those on the Hobby wagons (eg the 4424 flatbed with bulldozer, etc).

I had a 4095 coach a while ago where some bright spark had cut off the plastic pegs that allow the coupling to self-centre. The springy plastic bits on the back of the coupling therefore had nothing to press against. I solved it by filing a very slight groove in the top of the coupling mounting arm then gluing a staple in, which replaced the pegs. You can't see it when the coach is on the rails and it works perfectly.

Hi Matt,

I got it now. I might have to open a new topic for installing CCC's (well we got a new abbreviation biggrin ) on the coaches.

Thanks.
