Just to let you know that 36240 BR24 Steam will arrive at dealers from marklin next week or so.
Edit 9 September, The 36240 is in stock, Notice the loco driving wheels (Non-finescale) don't match with Marklin library image picture (Finescale). |

After such a stunning effort with the class 64, it seems logical to me that they should have done a similar job with the class 24!

Hi all, On the website: http://www.dermodellbahnchecker.de a test (in German) of this loco can be found. One of the key points made in this test is that the model seems to have a slight lack of pulling power, which can easily be resolved by adding a little bit of lead (about 25 grams) in the roof of the loco. If blackened properly, this improvement does not really stand out and improves performance significantly. It might be worthwhile to try as the model really looks nice and is reasonably priced as well! |

The test also shows that the decoder setting are good. The loc is not to fast at all. The lighting is done with white leds.
The wheels are completly red. So I think all Marklin steamers are going to get this.
And you can install a smoke generator.

I am so disappointed. I've been waiting for this model all year (I'm a big fan of the Class 24) but those wheels are a real let down. The image in the 2008 new items catalog looks great. Why did they have to over scale the wheels? this could have been such a nice model for the price.

Almost 100% I will get one.
I already have the old 3003 (I got it somewhere in the seventies). Although a great runner, it is somewhat battered and should be Z-gestellt.
This new BR24 comes just in time! :-)))
I will probably have to wait until X-mas ("Reyes" really) before getting it... Oh well... |

Wheels completly red are normal.
Only when a loc was new the wheels where so as Marklin made them. After that the wheel became completly red.
Al other firms did this already. Marklin is the last of the big firms to do this.

Those words make me think of the IKEA policy; "The first thing we decide about a new product, is it's price. Then we go to select design, materials and construction." (Excuse me if I didnt get it 100% correct.) Like it or not, it is definatly a concept that works! ;-) It focus SOLELY on the market. |

I hope your exagerating about how the wheels look, otherwise I too may be disappointed.
But this only reinforces my point on another thread about having the production details better established prior to announcing new models.
As the old saying goes, "spoil the ship for a ha'penny of tare"

That's not too bad. I think if it had any finer flanges it would have trouble in Marklin turnouts, and the spokes look fine enough.
I think the main difference is the wheels painted red right up to the rims. I have no problem with that.

Now there are some real possibilities with this locomotive. I must admit that it looks beter detail wise than I expected.
Has anyone got some pictures of the internals? Is there room to ut a sound chip into it?

See here https://www.marklin-users.net/up...blic/pserup/36240-3a.jpg The wheels in that photo look just fine to me. The hubs, spokes, and tires look good, and the rods and valve gear all look good. Keep in mind, when you first open a browser window with that photo, it's easily the size of an 0 scale locomotive! (well, on my monitor anyway). Viewed full size on my monitor, it's nearly Gauge 1 in size, maybe even a touch larger. In both cases, the flanges are no bigger, and maybe even smaller, than what Lionel or LGB would use. (Yes, I know LGB isn't Gauge 1 [:o)]) With the image roughly reduced down to H0, using the front coupler as a guide, I think the model as a whole turned out extremely well, especially given the price. I'm especially surprised at the quality of the cast-on piping on the boiler. The sanding pipes almost had me fooled for a second... I want one! Don Taylor
