The rails themselves are 1.5 mm high, which equates to .06". I suppose this means Code 60? Actually I think I read somewhere that Marklin rail is Code 60.

The more I think about it, the more I think it is Code 60. Are you trying to match with another make of track?

Giday Gary.
I have been over at the Fast Tracks web site. They sell rail too hand make track and points.
In Z they offer two codes of rail, code 40 and code 55.These are made by Micro Engineering.
I was just wondering what code Märklin Z is.

G'Day Rowan
Wow! You're game handlaying Z track! I have to take my glasses off to see my tracks if they're closer than half a metre away.

As I understand it, the codes refer to the rail height in thousandths of an inch, and given that the height of Marklin's Z rails is 1.5 mm, that translates to 0.06" - ie Code 60. By the way, I base that 1.5 mm on this:

Good luck!

I see that we're both members of another z forum, and I now see the origin of the Code 55 (ie MTL track). I seriously considered it, but decided on Marklin because they offer a much more comprehensive package. Especially the double-slip crossings, which are so typical of German railways.

Thanks for the link Rowan - most informative. In the light of those facts I find it a bit hard to understand Jim's (Z Central Moderator) insistence that the sleeper spacing of Marklin track is too close to be accurate for US prototype. Whatever. It doesn't particularly bother me, one way or the other.

Armand is both very helpful and a gentleman.
