I was wondering. Does the Trix products keep their value as the Märklin products do?

And beautiful models I may add. ;-) Actually I run DC, I started out a long time ago (23 years) with Märklin, but my collection is rather small. So when it was time to start again I chose Trix. Still I buy a lot of Märklin wagons, especially the freight wagons, and I run them with my Trix locomotives on my humble C-track layout.

Does anyone else collect the way I do?

I believe Goofy to be correct.
The value of the model directly relates to its overall quality, including running, materials, detail, and finish.
I belong to a Club that runs DCC on 2 rail. A TRIX Big Boy is owned by a Club member, and was purchased about 4 years ago. Undoubtedly it is the BEST locomotive that runs on our layout. Our layout runs locos from many manufacturers (Athearn, Lifelike, Bachmann, Broadway Limited, Precision Craft, Kato), but I believe that the TRIX is the outstanding model.
(I believe that the TRIX model is the same as the MARKLIN, except for the 3 rail system.)
For that reason, it will, if sold, retain a lot of value to any prospective purchaser.

Absolutely. The two brands have been top in the industry for many years. Before they merged, the Marklin tinplate rheingold cars were made by trix. So was the king Ludwig train. Post merger, many Trix items are Marklin, but for DC 2-rail instead., and some, visa-versa. Trix made some beatiful fine art S 26 steamers about 5 or 6 years ago.

Yes, those Fine-arts are beauties! I'm lucky enough to own one, which is incredibly nice. However, I guess I have to disagree with the overall opinion here. Take for example that Trix Big Boy: the prices for those Trix Big Boys on for example eBay are significantly lower compared to the Märklin ones, although both had an original retail price in the same range. Of course I know that taking one example does not make too much sense, but given the significantly smaller group of Trix collectors, on average the newer models (say, 2000 - now) are keeping value, but not as much as Märklin ones. On the other hand, some examples indicate otherwise, take for example Märklin 43048 and 43049 (Langenschwalbacher sets, 2 coaches each, KPEV, MHI last year). There was an additional Trix set that matches the earlier mentioned two, this set, 23354 (code could be wrong) is sold for a seriously high price. Apperently, a lot of collectors who own the 43048 and 43049 also fancy to have this Trix set which is produced in significantly smaller amounts.

Concluding: value is a very difficult thing to determine, as long as the model brings value to YOU, it's alright. wink

That is right! Something is worth what one want's to pay for it. The Big boy is nice, but I for myself would pay more for an AE 8 14 for example.

It is about same.

The Non digital Trix locomotives may lower price that marklin digital locomotives by up to 100 Euros.
Large Marklinist 3- Rails Layout with CS2/MS2/Boosters/C-track/favorites Electric class E03/BR103, E18/E118, E94, Crocodiles/Steam BR01, BR03, BR05, BR23, BR44, BR50, Big Boy.

TRIX products do keep their value similarly to Maerklin. I have a collection of TRIX Express, TRIX International and TRIX Twin trains and they have value. The Mikado Trix Katalog, 1 Band von 1988/89
can be found for sale on E-bay and has valuations of all TRIX Express/International items from 1935 through 1989 listed in DM (2 DM ~ 1 Euro). Remember TRIX was bought out by Maerklin in 1999.

Not all models produced by Maerklin now are brought out as equivalent TRIX 2-rail DC models and vice versa.
