My 37193 is still yet to arrive

Is it possible to put a Smoke Unit in the 37193?

What's a 37193? Always say what it is, Alex, we don't all carry databases of Marklin product numbers around in our heads!

Is this your Br17? You should be able to download the manual for it, and that should tell you whether you can put a smoke unit in it.

The manual makes no mention of a smoke unit, neither is there a function for it in the function list.

Looks like there is no smoke option for this locomotive.

Well stop sitting around, order some track, and start building a module to go with Big D's.

See page 4 of 5/2009 Insider club news magazine (English) for detail.wink

The Function table said smoke unit was in the 2009 new item brochure but not in the 2009/2010 catalogue.

There is a error in the 2009 new item brochure.

It is a bit daft for a one time series loco not to have the ability to fit a smoke unit.

I checked the manual for my 26549 Br38 (which looks similar to the Br17), and that can have smoke!

From Dermodellbahnchecker:

"Info: Der Einbau eines Rauchgenerators ist nicht möglich, da hier eine Verschraubung des Gehäuses erfolgt. Die Lok ist nicht mit einer führender Kupplungsmöglichkeit (auch keine Möglichkeit einer Nachrüstung) ausgeführt, so dass Doppeltraktionen mit der Lok an 2. Stelle nicht möglich sind."

As far as I know, the BR 18.1 also can't operate a smoke unit..

Though I'm moving more and more towards no sound, plainer models these days, one can't help but feeling a bit shortchanged compared to the similarly priced BR 01.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

Well you can't put a smokeunit into it, because ther is a screw instead.
You can't have a double traction because there is no coupling facility,
maybe the next special feature is, you can't add a sound module because, well they think of something.

Would it make a difference if it wasn't a one-time series? Smile

The mould was originally used for 2681/2881 in 1995 - and it had no smoke unit then and no smoke unit ever since.

There is your answer, David, why in the world would you think that in 14 years there would be a change of heart ? or even the slightest deviation from a non smoking unit to a smoking unit.
What were you thinking ?biggrin

Maybe! Smilewink It just seemed to me (without knowing the background), and probably to Alex as well, a bit disappointing not to be able to have smoke in what was intended by Marklin to be a special model.

I thought Märklin screwed this one up, but they haven't
I bet you somebody had a loose screw and said: It fits perfectly in here.
Would'nt you agree ? biggrin

That's a real pain having a screw there, other wise it would have been an easy retrofit.

Alex, the trick is not for you to look at the girls, but find a way to get them looking at you (in a good sense of course). In the meantime, build a module, go on, just do it.

Order some K track and Noch Merkur roadbed and do it! Your first one can be as simple as two straight through lines!!!

Cheers....

Mike.

So... would it be appropriate to say that Marklin screwed this one up?

Bit of a disappointment for those who purchased off the 2009 brochure.

I can't understand why a smoke unit on a loco like this isn't standard fittment. But then I also think loco's like this and the BR39 should have come with a telex coupler on the tender too! [V]

Cheers.....

Mike.

P.S. Still happy with my anatomically incorrect and out of date BR41[^]
