Hey everyone,
I've working away on a Faller kit, and I've encountered a new challenge. Part of the building (timber house) is plastic, but supposed to be/mimicking wood.

What do you guys use to weather this? Dullcote isn't enough for me, and I cant seem to find any setup I like with test pieces.

Thanks!

I use india ink dizzolved in methylated spirits(rubbing alcohol) to stain it darker. usually I use a 1:9 ratio of ink to spirits. Don't dissolve the ink in water, because the surface tesion ruins the effect, even with a droplet of dishwash liquid

First i use wood colour and painting it at wall. When colour did dry out,i use panzer schokladbraun and thin it out with acrylic thinner.I paint by carefully brushing on the wall by to get "dirty looking"!
All this from Testors.

Thanks guys! I use india ink for actual wood, but didn't think it would work for fake plastic wood. I'll try your method out goofy! Got a pic of the finished product you can post?

The problem is that the texture isnt right. So i sand the plastic down first. With different grades of sand paper.

Then i paint it off white.Over that i use 2 shades of brown....A lighter brown almost like natural earth on some parts...and a dark brown on others. When everything is dry....i run over the whole piece with a dark powder.

Gives a nice effect.I did my truss bridge like that.

And this little mill i did with lighter colors and very little sanding.

Thank you guys! I've done extensive eathering on dozens of kits before, but believe it or not this is the first time I've had to simulate wood! (I usually use the real thing)

I'll post some results once done!

One time when I was not satisfied with the 'wood' of a plastic kit I just covered it in strip wood :)
