Im about to order some carriages for my long planned nighttrain.

But im in doubt!

Option one: Rivarossi set 4016 (3 Mu Cariages) + ACME 50561 and 50562

Option two ACME 50561, 50581, 50582, 50580 and 50562

http://www.acmetreni.it/index.p...mp;Itemid=62&lang=it

and

http://rivarossi.hornbyi...7131557&resultspage=

Which combination will do best? How do Rivarossi and ACME compare in detail?

Please let me know your opinion.

I just ordered the 55034 and 55035 Sets from my ACME dealer.
The sets allow you to recreate the full consist of the EN "Luna" on the Zuerich-Rome route over the Loetschberg.
http://www.tecnomodel-tr...ina=details&id=19659

ACME also released a CIWL MU sleeper as operated by the SBB.
http://www.tecnomodel-tr...ina=details&id=19595
That coach would go nicely with the Type P sleeper from LSM in CIWL colors to recreate the famous Holland-Italien Express.

As far as Rivarossi vs ACME, I do not yet have any of the ACME sleepers. I do have three of the older Rivarossi/Jouef models (SBB/SNCF) and they look good coupled with Roco, Lima and other coaches.

As you are fortunate to be living in Europe, hopefully you can find a dealer where you can examine the models in hand. I have to order sight unseen as there are no Euro model RR dealers within 500km of me.

You should be able to find some nice close up model photos at dealers like trenie-treni.it, tecnomodel-treni.it and memoba.at
I love the interior details of the ACME/LSM coaches. The only downside is that prototypically, in night operation, the windows would be covered by shades so that you could not see the beds and ladders and other details.

Oh, well, I think I can live with this compromise.Smile

The Luna set certainly looks stunning Mike. And now that you've mentioned it: the interior of the ACME is wonderfull.

I think I'll give it a try with option two: ACME 50561, 50581, 50582, 50580 and 50562 which will do nicely with my Öbb Rh 1144.

Unfortunately for me most dealers in the NL focus on dutch (NS) and german(DB) rolling stock. Öbb and FS aren't frequently spotted in regular MMR shops.

My biggest frustration over the years has been the difficulty in getting models that are not of German trains here in North America. Whether it be the Export Models (Maerklin) or International Collection/Laendersonderserien (Roco), the only way to get the hard to find models was mail order.

This is how I managed to get my:

Roco Eurofima Am 44669
Roco SOB/BT EWIV 44966-969
Roco SBB EWIV, EC and EWII (Alternate Numbered Coaches)
Roco 69591.1 Re 482 ChemOil

Maerklin 3638 Ae 6/6 11414 "Bern"

I forgot that you are modelling OBB. Don't forget that LS Models has announced some new OBB coaches, including couchettes this year. Additionally, you might be able to find some RailTop coaches that would fit as well (from Huenerbein):
http://cgi.ebay.de/RailT...VP_W0QQitemZ280378777011

You may still be able to find a Roco 45070 WLABm in the TEN colours as well.

Ordered the ACME 50561, 50581, 50580 and 50562 at www.modeltreinexpress.nl (very very very basic internet shop section .. :-)). A store close by which I'm able to vissit and offers a wide array of brands.

Must say I was pleasantly supprised by the prices of 51.50 euro / coach.

I hope to order a 5th and maybe 6st ÖBB or FS TEN couchette later when new coaches are issued.

It was told deliverys from ACME are quite irregular and it could take some time for them to arrive.

Given the help I got from here in choosing the right sleeper cariage, I certainly want to show you the results!

The cariages are the most detailed in my collection. Even the bed sheets in each cabin on each bed are in the right color and the FS cariages have other details than the ÖBB ones. Even better detailed than Roco, and really really light years ahead of M*. Fabulous, everyone should try ACME for once.

Just two pictures for now, light settings were quite poor, but I'll post some more detailed pics of the complete train soon.

Great pictures Evil!

I have an ACME FS carriage ( couchette X type) and yes, the detailing is wonderful!

What about the rolling of these carriages? Have you changed the wheels?

Thanks guys!

Wheels have been switched (standard ACME DC to AC wheels) as well as the couplers (Roco Universal coupler now).

Driving is good. No derailments after I have switched the wheels.

Great train!

Different bogies are because OBB had Minden-Deutz ones, FS choosed FIAT.

Have you considered to complete your train with couchette cars (like this one http://www.acmetreni.it/...Tipo_X_4992ce85f3d63.jpg )

Hello Evil,

Nice photo of your consist.
There are a few additional coaches you may wish to consider adding:
ACME 50500/50501/50510/50511 FS Couchette coaches
Railtop OBB ex-CIWL Type P with or without TEN logo
LS Models will be bringing out new models of the OBB Couchette coaches.
You could also add one or two compartment coaches (either UIC-X FS or domestic OBB as Kurswagen.)

Once again, thanks for your interesting report on these ACME models. This certainly confirms the rise of ACME, LS Models and other new companies to the top of the modelling world in terms of details and appearance.

I am very pleased with my EN "Luna" SBB/FS Set and looking forward to the LSM SBB UIC coaches. The FS Sleepers in the Luna Set are similar models to yours but painted in the "Treno Notte XMPR" livery. I'm currently considering adding a MAV (Hungarian) couchette coach from ACME to round out my Zuerich-Vienna-Budapest EN consist.

Regards

Extending the train to prototypical length is a bit problematic, since the lenght of the hidden station is limited to 195 cm.

Which leaves room for
(195 - 20 (locomotive) / 30 ) = 5.8 1/87 carriages.

When I'd use a double traction Rh1044 only 5.

But lets say I could add 2 more.

Personally I'm quite interested in a T2 type or a P type carriage.

I believe Heris Modeleisenbahn has/had some in her programme.

For what I know, in Italy trains with only sleeping cars don't exist!
This is why I suggested one or two couchette coaches, if you want a more realistic consist!

Evil,

I would agree with Al that you should add a couchette coach (either FS or OBB).
For a FS Coach, it could be either gray (1968-1980) or gray-red (1980s). For OBB, Liliput had a model of a 1980s UIC-X Bcm. You may wish to wait for the announced new model from LS Models.

The other option would be one of the OBB UIC-X coaches from RailTop or other OBB Coach as a Kurswagen.

Besides the one metioned by pignolo, I think this one was ment by you mike?

Evil,

Here are some coaches that you can consider for your FS-OBB Nighttrain (Mostly ACME) (Links from Tee-USA):

http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product3484.html
FS UIC Type Y 1/2nd Class

http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product24118.html
FS WLAB Type P (CIWL)

http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product1337.html
http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product7249.html
FS Couchettes Type 1957

http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product21773.html
UIC-X Red/Gray Livery 1980s
http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product24116.html
UIC-X Gray livery 1970s (Fiat bogies)
(50502 with MD bogies)

http://cgi.ebay.de/RailT...amp;_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
RailTop OBB UIC-X (1970s)

All of these ACME, RailTop items should be available from Huenerbein in Aachen and from authorized dealers in Holland and worldwide.

Ordered one extra ACME 50501 UIC-X Red/Gray Livery 1980s.

If it fits in my hidden station, I'll order another one.

Very good! I think you will like it very much! It is beautiful very well detailed.
Unfortunately I don't have a complete picture of my ACME couchette, but here you can see it pulled by my E656:

http://www.piroen.eu/php...lastico%2F0809_65602.jpg

Your coach is 1970 series, mine is 1964. You can see the difference in the doors and in the bogies (mine are type 24FS, yours are FIAT).

ACME 50501 was on stock, so I was able to collect it today. Wheels and couples have been changed to Piko AC wheels and Roco universal coupler.

Again its a beautifull coach. Interior couchettes has red sheets on the white matrasses and brown bedframes. Steps are metallic. Exterior is fantastic. One could ask if it can any better than this.

For a price comparable with an average non-prototypical not so detailed M* coach which are made in large quantities, I now have a superdetailed prototypical 1:87 coach which is made in relative small numbers.

I beats me how ACME does it, but they can count on me for further purchases.

Very nice! These are lovely coaches. You made a good choice!!!!!

I own a similar consist: an international night train, all composed by FS coaches (but not only couchette and sleeping cars...) in 90s livery:

UserPostedImage

Composition:

MU sleeping car (Rivarossi)
UserPostedImage

X type couchette car (ACME, different series than yours, see the bogies 24FS type and the chassis)
UserPostedImage

X type 1st and 2nd class (Roco,Minden-Deutz bogies)
UserPostedImage

X type 2nd class (Rivarossi, FIAT bogies)
UserPostedImage

Z type 2nd class in Eurofima livery (Roco)
UserPostedImage

The train is often pulled by an E656 Roco in Italian section...
UserPostedImage

... by a Re 4/4 IV in Swiss...

... and by a BB22200. My train comes to France Cool
