<br />I think the main reason is so that you can match speeds with the Re 4/4 II and make up an Re 10/10.

Hi Ray, haven't heard from you in a while. Nice to have you back! Smile

Hi Tim,

Just been away for a week, taking my daughter to Uni in UK.

It's nice to be missed! (Maybe I talk too much!)

DCM equiped Re 10/10 or 6/6 is no option for me. The noice of the DCM would over stem all other loco's and a upgrade with a LP3.5 sound decoder would be worthless.

But on the other side, nice of them to comminicate this by e-mail. Its quite frank and open. Smile It enables me to make up my mind which Re 6/6 to buy.

I have many DCM motored locos, and only one or two SDS.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I've learnt just how much and when to lubricate my locos so they don't make any excessive noise. When running at any reasonable speed, the noise of the clickety clack of the coaches or wagons on the rails is far louder than the noise made by the loco.

Only on some of the locos, I get a slight "groan" on speed step 1 before it picks up speed, but usually only in one direction.

I have full sound on my Br85, and the chuffing sound is a lot louder than the motor noise.

The secret is to run your locos in properly, clean out the gunk from the motor and gears, and then only apply one small drop of oil on each of the motor bearings.

After how many hours of running do we need to open up the loco to clean out the gunk?

I look at it this way....

If you get a model with the DCM motor, you get something that is reliable, easily fixed, and for which parts are easily obtained, even here in NZ.

If you get a SDS equipped model, you get the latest technology, and quiet smooth running.

Either way you win!

My two Re 4/4 IIs are the smoothest running DCM models in my fleet - but this is only because I've put ball bearings on them.
Otherwise they are about average IMO.

One of my ex-Delta Re 4/4 II is currently running quite noisy,
despite having been fitted a new motor shield (no bearing yet on this one); and had just received a drop of oil on either side of the armature. But this is just a typical behavior of some of the DCM models I have.

There is not much to discuss anyways. Märklin has decided the technical composition of this model and understandably has no plans for change. Whoever doesn't like it this way has the freedom to do this him/herself. Needless to say we want to see such a report from Tim here. wink

Let me start by saying that I can't agree more.

No point in arguing further the point further to Marklin;
it's their product, and at the end of the day I respect that manufacturers should have the final say on what spec they want to put into their products.

I might not agree with their call; but from their perspective, relying too much on too many differing opinion of customers, might in the end just confuse product development.

Let's the sales number be the final decider whether Marklin had made the right call or not. It's really Marklin's problem and not ours..

I've told Marklin that I'd buy 37321, but very unlikely to buy any other release of this Re 6/6; simply because it will not meet my full expectations as a new model...
Otherwise I'd buy every one of their new Re 6/6 releases.

For me, this model also represent an investment risk.
Marklin have the manufacturing ability to fit SDS on this model anytime they want; and I'm sure was able to make good profit still by developing SDS for such model.

Remember also that judging from the history, they had ran two major "product launches" to upgrade as many DCM models as possible with Sinus. This is what they've keep pointing as "the future". So that is where I'm putting my money on.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

you must understand, every hand at M is busy weathering the 'superspecial' and 'strictly limited' BR 44 at the bargain price of 480 euros, guess for what side this is the bargain und guess again what the 'limit' is.... :-)) and if this limit is reached they are busy packaging locos of the month, so no time for fall news....

They are certainly bagging the weathering job done by Marklin. Comments are that the Trix Br44's have better weathering.

Plus if you want one, the suggestion seems to be you have to pick it up from one of the 6 stores. Bit hard for us on this side of the globe, Tim!
