Still more - no one posted live pics on them, so far ...

Some dealers even do split the set - though way more expensive, then ...

Re 6/6 with SDS would be nice

All for it!

Got a response from Marklin service centre about this possibility yesterday;

Quote:
[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:From Marklin:
<font face="Arial]thanks for your question.

The reasons why we fit out the models 37320 and 37321 with 5-pole DCM "high efficiency propulsion" are versatile.
We have other older RE4/4 II with the same decoder and engine control unit. So it is possible to make a double traction with the new locomotives. An other reason is the cost structure. With the SDS engine the locomotive were more expensive.
We do not change the engine in this locomotives. The locomotives will be delivered as promised.

No SDS? [:(] Life can be cruel.wink

But seriously, that is a bit odd. Such a nice train combined with an engine from the dark ages!

The 37xxx are with 5-pole DCM "high efficiency propulsion".

The 39xxx have SDS.

It's very sad indeed.
From their reasoning, ok, SDS is more expensive,
but then they knew it from the beginning even when they developed the first Sinus it's gonna be expensive.

The whole point of developing motor is to put Marklin at forefront in motor innovation, and also as a selling point for new models. To sell it at slight premium is to be expected.

If they say now it's more expensive?
Why bother?
Why do all the Eurosprinters got the upgrade to SDS?
(FYI - they're all originally DCM models!)

Why do all new einheits e-loks got SDS?
Why do all new steamers got SDS?

Why do most Swiss models has to slug it on with poor ol' DCM?

Well, life's not fair.
No point in arguing the case further.
At least I made my point and pop the question to M*.

Tim I think you are right. Maybe they have a lot of old motors in stock.
Interesting answer they gave you. You can take your pick from versatile to cost structure.
I like the sds motors and tend now to avoid the others unless it is something special.

Hi Dave,

Don't think it's because they have plenty of old motor in stock.
I actually think that there is a (marketing) political motivation behind it;

I think there are some (groups) who are worried that Marklin's increasing use of Sinus technology meant that DCM in on the way out.
And the poor Re 6/6 might be the scapegoat for M* to reassure this group that it's not. Besides it's convenient since Re 4/4 II has not been upgraded also and still sells reasonably well.

If we were led to believe the reasoning was purely because DCM is "versatile" and "cheaper";

How the b****y hell did Marklin managed to justify developing models like the similarly priced new Taurus (39836) or even the cheaper E10/E40 (39110/39140) with SDS?

FYI;
since the neubaulok BR 10; there hasn't been any newly developed model with DCM propulsion.
In fact every new development that Marklin make since the late 1990s either come with can motor/faulhaber/maxxon or Sinus.

I think the main reason is so that you can match speeds with the Re 4/4 II and make up an Re 10/10.

Hello,

the explanation is simple. Märklin used for the RE6/6 the same boogies than the Re 4/4II. In scale 1:87 the boogies of both locs would have 1mm difference in length, so why create a new boogie by wasting money in a time of crysis?
Use the existing one and everything is fine.
This has even the advantage to have similar speed characteristic when both locs are joined togehter in the Re 10/10 traction. A SDS loco and a 5 pole loco would not work in traction.

Like I said it was a "convenient" rather than truly honest excuse for Marklin.

Consider this;
The opposite of this argument of Re 10/10 double consist has to share similar characteristic is also true;

That is if they both share the same driving boogie; and SDS is developed for Re 6/6, then its sister class Re 4/4 II will automatically be able to get one too!

Such models will surely be a gold mine for Marklin..
I for one will try and buy every single model of such development.

As for cost;
There are lots of other SDS loks in the same price level with arguably more difficult construction; CC40100 (39401), BR 64 (39640), etc.
And you have to wonder the reasoning of having developed SDS upgrades for models with arguably more limited sales potential (and more expensive to develop) such as the 39590 Ae 8/14.

One can assume that the true reasoning of "cost" is because selling the Re 6/6 at the current price level simply yield better profit margin as opposed to equipping them with SDS...

The other thing to consider is that once the market is saturated with DCM version of these models, Marklin might try and upgrade these models with better motor (not necessarily SDS). Remember, the other market pressure is that DCM models will be more considerably difficult to move when they are sold under Trix compared to under Marklin.

If they did that even 5 years from now, I will feel quite screwed with the DCM version.

Cr*p... listening to my own argument - I'm now reconsidering whether I should actually buy this model..
