Hi Darren. My pictures don't do it justice either. It is definately worth a visit (or two, or three, or.... ) for any model railroad fan. Thanks for your well wishes. The 2 fires burning west of Okanagan Lake near West Kelowna are a few kilometers away from me. For those of us living on the east side of the lake in Kelowna, the biggest concerns are taking care of our friends affected by the fires, and the air quality as it continues to drop, and drop.

Thanks Stephen. We are safe, but the house smells like smoke all the time and my patio furnishings are covered with ashes.

Great pictures, thanks for the update. Hope you and your family and property stay safe. There's been enough damage caused this year by bush fires, without any more.

Thanks for the kind words David. The good news is that during this period of poor air quality, our kids (aged 9, 6 and 4) have been several hundred kilometers away on a camping trip with my mother/father-in law. They will be back this coming Friday so hopefully the fire crews can continue their great progress to date and get these fires taken care of. The winds have been fairly calm so they are gettng some help.

Hi Fantastic model layout, just how it should look. Should give us all something to aim towards, the only problem being the 4000 square feet required! Ian

I am wondering why it defines it the Desert Model Railroad... Just because is in a deserted area? That's not the theme of the layout. A bit far for me, but I agree, worth a visit, if I ever get to that part of the world. |

Osoyoos is located on a high elevation plateau that is very dry and arid. I am not sure if it actually is a desert but I would not be suprised. I am hoping to make a trip down there soon to see this wonderful layout.
Glad to hear you are on the other side from the fires. One of my co-workers has parents that were evacuated and his sister was stuck in town due to highway closures. Let's hope they get the fires under control soon.
Darren

Alessandro, I believe this geographic region is described as semi-arid. The further south you go through the Okanagan Valley, the more desert-like it becomes. Darren, let me know if/when you decide to go visit as I might be able to meet up with you. They also have a Tim's in Osoyoos!

Yellowstone National Park in the United States is about 1100Kms from Osoyoos so about a 12 hour drive. Try a search on google maps.
