You get the models for €1499.
The extra you bid, will pay for the box Smile (which will surely become a collectors item in its own right!).

Congratulations Lutz on a fine purchase, and no doubt a good investment (for fun, and for children, grandchildren etc etc).
I have not purchased any Swiss models, mainly because of limitations in both storage and layout space and finance. However I understand their appeal.

Received my 31859 set here in England today.

Whilst this is unashamedly a collector's item, I feel Märklin should be congratulated on a superb job of design, manufacturing, packaging and presentation.

This set is truly an object of desire!

Not sure! The information on the Märklin web site:

http://www.maerklin.de/de/150ja...ukte/150-jahre-deko.html

specifies that each dealer has a maximum of 4 of the black crocodiles, but doesn't specify how many of the "Dekopakets" can be ordered. Each set includes some items that are not so easy to sell (like the Jolanda), so I suspect many dealers will not want to buy this expensive bundle.

My 31860 is on its way to me from Germany now, so, as a collector, I hope that the edition is limited to 500!

Hi Nigel,
While there is a limit of 4 of the black crocodile to any one dealer, I can imagine some dealers (particularly in Germany) may "liaise". For example one dealer may be able to sell 6, another only 2.

However, they do list approximately 350 dealers, so there is potential for 1400 of the "schwarzen Krokodile".

Anyway, as to the numbers produced, Märklin would produce enough models to cover their dealer orders. And they probably have a formula like "orders + 5%" for some models, or "orders + 2%" for other models, just to cover additional demand.

Only Märklin would know how big their order book is.

regards
Kimball

Just got my 31860 set!

Actually, there are slight differences. All the locos (even the modern brown crocodile) have the number 1859 (instead of 31859 or 14312). The mfx identities of the locos are updated to include the number 31860 instead of 31859, and the certificate and the label on the display case now have the word "Deko".

Admittedly, these are small changes, but they are enough to allow a definitive decision as to which loco comes from which set! Who knows what the relative values of these things might be to future generations of Märklin fans?
