Hello All,

I have the above Loco from my Swiss Mega Starter Set 29680 which has recently developed a problem.

When moving at slower speeds is jerks continuously, however if I speed up then it runs okay. This seems to happen in one direction only.

I really like this locomotive and since I am fairly new to MRR,there is no way I intend to open it and mess around myself.

What could causing this problem?

I think I will send it back to my dealer in South Africa.

Regards

You may have an armature problem. Does it make a noise like it running without oil when it operates erratically in the one direction?

Does it make a noise when doing the jerks? Have you tried lubrication on the motor? A tiny drop of oil on the motor end bearings can make a huge difference.

Hi,

Yes it does make a noise.

What can cause armature to fail, would it not also have the jerky running at higher speeds.

I would open the loco and oil it like Ray said. Sometimes these sets sit on the dealers shelves for a long time and the oil dries up. It is very easy to open the loco and you don't have to worry about breaking anything.
Just follow the instructions on the booklet that came with the set.
I have this set and love it.
