Does anybody know when the upgrade via USB stick for the CS2 will be available. They were I think testing it weeks ago but nothing since. I have been waiting on this for months now. Perhaps Lutz can help.

I had no problem upgrading my CS2 by simply hooking it up to my cable modem. I probably could have hooked it up to my wireless router that is hooked to my modem. Can you not upgrade that way? Eric

Hi Eric. My problem is my computer and layout are in different parts of the house and I dont want to move my CS2 which is built in to a control panel. I dont have a router which I have not needed. My last update was using a USB stick which was no problem and I would have thought that by now M would have provided that facility. Thanks for the info though.

Dave, I did see somewhere where Marklin said the USB version of the latest CS2 update would be posted several weeks after the direct method version. So it can't be too far away.
Springboard, for computer control of your layout from your PC via your CS2, you would use the ethernet connection. Therefore you need to make sure the CS2 and your PC are connected to the switch ports in the back of your router (most routers have 4 or so ports you can use to connect PC's).
If your router is set to give out IP addresses by DHCP, both your PC and CS2 should obtain an address automatically. If not, you need to assign an address manually.
You enter the address details of your CS2 into the software you are using for train control, and away you go.

That's weird that you say that Henrique, because I know Clapcott has been doing exactly that. Granted, he wrote his own software, but nevertheless he has been using the ethernet connection quite successfully.

Hi, I have tried using the Ethernet connection without full success… For example, I can not to use this connection to capture the screen of my CS2. My CS2 is connected to a Linksys router which is configured to dchp mode. However, I had no problems to install the software version 1.1.3, using this connection type. It seems that the ethernet connection is not fully operational. Regards, Henrique

The Ethernet-connection is not (yet) supposed to let you capture the CS2 screen! The Ethernet-connection is fully operational for the tasks that has been released until now. That is: You can control locos through it, and you can control accessories. You can also monitor changes for those items (from a connected computer). |

Hi, In my opinion, comparing CS1 and CS2, Ethernet connection for CS2 is less functional than the one in CS1. Marklin has plans for making a software to interact with CS2 using Ethernet connection, in order to achieve more interaction with CS2 using this connection type. Regards, Henrique

No - the thread is about the CS-II USB-Stick! And as someone referred to that as computer-interface - also the Ethernet-connection was "included".
I agree with (you) Henrique that the CS-I connection is more useful - however I still consider the CS-II to be fully functional. This as it performs the tasks, which M* has until now relased (through the document "CAN-protcol"). |

Nope, the thread is actually about the CS2 update via the USB stick method. Dave is asking when the 1.1.3 version update via USB will be available. Check davemr's original post. Perhaps he mis-named the thread a bit, but that is the gist of his original post.

Thanks Lutz. Good info as usual. I dont mind any discussion re updating etc in the thread if it is heplful to anybody. CS2 is a great unit which I hope will receive the support from Marklin that it deserves. |

That's right - the name of the update files will always be the same, regardless of which update they are ment for. |

However, the first words under "USB-Stick Update" are "Die aktuelle Software-Version ist 1.1.3(0)".

Hi Updated via USB with no problems. Now have a correct alphabet and a nice picture on closing down. Is there anything else I have and if so how do I get it. I know I am missing something here but is there a list of what is new with this update. Still remains the best controller available today in my opinion.

I updated using the USB yeaterday and everything went fine. I was not successful in updating using the ethernet cable. Only issue I see is the new user interface to select a loco needs one extra step than before since you have to 'Accept' the loco that you picked. |

Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote: Originally posted by Hemmerich<br />Which extra step? You push one of the two loco buttons, select the loco you want to use (by default you get the last 30 ones displayed) from the menu and simply drive it by the control side which you chose. There is barely any easier and faster task accomplished than this one. When you want to see all locos on the list (using the radio button), and then pick one, don't you have to click on the check mark to Accept the loco you just picked? I thought I had to but I may be mistaken. If picked from the initial list of 30 locos, then I don't have to click on the check mark. |
