Schienenbus 39980 problem

Because i'm finishing my second part of the layout (upper layers, the first part was shadow station) i tested yestarday the shuttle trains option of CS1.
What train should be used? Smile The Schienenbus 39980 biggrin
Everything configured and it didn't work [V]
But testing a little better i saw that the 39980 was not responding even in manual, so i used another train and it worked just fine...

It was a little bit late so i left the problem to the other day.
Today i'm sure: the 39980 just don't work, not even re-registering it with mfx.
I opened it just to see if something was out of place, but no luck.

So, 6 months in the shelf did something to this beatifull Schienenbus.

Anyone has any ideas, besides sending it to Marklin?

Do you have access to an MS or another CS ? Try to register it with that one. If that doesn't work either, then back to Märklin with it.

I had a problem with the 39981 (the austrian version of the Schienenbus)
because the MFX registration process which started automatically the first time I put it on tracks was not properly completed. Although I had it on the CS1 screen and despite the fact it worked the first time, after a shutdown I could never use it again.
the after-sales of M. told me it could be a faulty MFX decoder, so I sent it back. Took months (4!) for a replacement but it now works perfectly.Cool

I think most of those repair cases are really fully functional mfx decoders, just out of sync with the control station. I have had similar problems a number of times, but it has always been possible to recover the failing decoder using another MS. No need to send anything back to Märklin so far. But if you only have one CS or MS and can't get access to another one, there is not much else you can do.

I'll go along with your first statement. I had a problem the other day getting a newly installed MFX decoder to register. Normally when I place a lok on the track, (especially mfx loks) I shut the power down on that bit of track first. In this instance I forgot to do that, placed the new MFX lok on the track, jiggled it a bit and created a short circuit, and after that I just couldn't get it to register at all.

I surmised that what had happened is that it had started to register when I created the short circuit and interrupted the registration process part way through. I figured that the CS obviously knew about the lok, so wouldn't re-register, but the registration process hadn't completed so it wouldn't display.

I therefore reloaded a saved version of my CS database, this wiping out the knowledge the CS had of that particular lok. I placed the lok on the track again and it registered perfectly - problem solved.

A good reason to have your CS backed up.

I sent mine Schienenbus 39980 to marklin two weeks ago. When putting the Schienenbus on track and after about 3 or 4 minutes, it looses the mfx connection and it is impossible to edit the docoder parameters.

It seems here that mfx has some troubleshooting sometimes.
Not only railbus 39980 has badly decoder,but also others locomotivsmodels has been in trouble.
So i wonder how many customer did had get same problem with mfx in the locomotivs...?
Hundreds or thousands of them...?

It may work most of the time but unfortunately, you may come across some "diehard" decoder. I also have a second-hand MS, wich is mainly intended to rescue that kind of problem. However, this emergency procedure failed with the Schienenbus and M. had to replace the decoder.
(I bought so far 7 MFX locs, none of them had this problem).
