Hello all,
Does anyone know of a site that shows the BR EA 800 and it's variations? Just curious to see the prototype that Maerklin 3044 is based on and where it was in service. Thank you.

Finding pictures and info on EA800 is difficult. I found these photos:

This one is a EA500

As you can see, it does not look too much like the Marklin model, but it's close enough for me.

Here's some info:

Thanks for the pictures and links. I'm sure it's a bit of artistic licensing involved given the closeness to a few other models, ie. 3078. I was just curious when they might have used the diesel motor and when they used the pantographs but, as the photos Ray gave illustrates, the two scenarios appear to be shown. I received my model the other day and noticed what looked like an exhaust port on the roof of the cab surrounded by rivets and figured it wasn't just a hole there with a missing piece. I was lucky to find one with the first style box and the racing locomotive art work.

I believe "EA" stands for Electric Accumulator, meaning that it can run either from the pantographs or using on board batteries.

I don't think they had a diesel engine. The model's exhaust port is probably there because it's the same body shell as the DHG500 models (3078,3090 etc.) There was another variant (EDE 1000/500), which was Electric/Diesel-electric, but that was quite a bit bigger and looked totally different.
