I have the engine and two passenger cars from Set 5510. The engine looks like a BR80 but in Swiss colors (Gray) The Body is all plastic and nicely detailed although not nearly as nice as Marklin's 55000 series. No literature came with the purchase. I first placed it on the test track to determine if it was digital. The instant I released the "Stop" on my remote controller it took off running in reverse. "Find" engine on the controller could not Identify it, I tried manually setting the address as 9 and then as 13,70-80 but there was no digital response. I shut the track down and retried with an AC transformer. T same issue ensued although velocity control was attained proportional to voltage when track power was applied via 0-18 vac (Lionel) transformer, I then purchased a vintage Marklin 280a Transformer and still had same issue: always in reverse. Can anyone here tell me about this engine and how to get it functioning properly?

Can you open the engine and post a picture of the innards? Can you identify the decoder?

We found the problem... It is a AC only engine and requires the Marklin reversing pulse to change direction. I was using a Lionel Xformer (no pulse) I bought an ancient used 280a and the train runs fine now. Thank you all for your suggestions
