As a newcomer to z-gauge, I was surprised that there were not more instructions with the start-set and the extension for a passing loop, but eventually found them via the firm’s web site. (The downloadable 0296, 'Gleisanlagen-Planbuch').
However, there's no obvious way to isolate the track on one road while the turnouts are set to the other. (My experiences with KATO and Fleischmann n-gauge turnouts were different.) can anyone advise me? Am I missing something that should be self-evident?

Ah no, as with so many things Z Scale, nothing is self evident here!

Marklin's turnouts are not self-isolating, so if you want to be able to park a train on a passing loop and have another pass on the other you have to isolate one or both loops using isolating tracks or insulating rail joiners.

It's something that Marklin are pretty vague about, even in their track plans.

Does that help?

All the best

Chris

Many thanks, Chris! I suspected as much, but thought there might be a cunning plan. I'll look at the isolating tracks/rail joiners.
Best wishes,
Russell

I think you can only buy the insulating joiners in a pack (8954) with normal ones, which is a bit of a bind and makes them quite expensive.

I think I have a few around, so if you'd like to PM me your address I'll pop some in the post to you.

Cheers

Chris
