Hello,
I purchased a CS3+ (60216) in 2021, it is software Version 2.3.1 (8).
I run up to 5 trains on my layout simultaneously.
But I do not use the CS3+ to control any solenoid or on/off accessories.
It works well.

My problem:
Currently I have 3 pages of locomotives showing on the locomotive choices screen.
I find it painful searching throught 3 pages of tiny loco icons to find the loco which I want to stop (or adjust speed etc).

Is there a method of showing on a single page only the locomotives currently operating on the layout?
Or perhaps it might show the last (say 6-10) locos used.
Or perhaps it might sort the icons to give preference in chronological order (on the first page) to the last locos used.

Secondly:
I have never updated my CS3+ and purchased a USB stick to do that.
While the system works perfectly now, I am loath to try an update, in case it changes somethng of which I am not aware.
But I can see the advantages in having MFX locos use the correct icon when registering.
Are there any pitfalls in the update process?

Thank you in advance
Kimball

With the sort menu at the top of the loco tiles screen, you can sort by name, type (steam, diesel etc.), history (last used) or max. speed.
You may want to select history for your purposes.

I have changed the names of my 400+ locos in CS3, preceded by a sequential number (e.g., 001 Re 460-004 Uetliberg), to sort and group them by name in a logical order.
I realise this does not solve your issue of grouping locos actually running simultaneously, which I don't on my short service track.

I have an early CS3, bought second hand, which is connected via ethernet to receive all updates, and I haven't experienced any problems so far.
Other members have described several issues though, as reported in earlier threads.

The latest update, 2.5.2 I believe should be problem free. After installing it it will re-register or update all your individual mfx locomotives one by one.
I don't find the icons for the locomotives to be that small (wearing glasses for my old eyes). Page 31 of this pdf CS3 manual shows how you can filter and sort your collection of engines. Also notice that the locomotive page can be dragged up to view 18 icons in one screen.

Bart, above, also mentions this.

If you slide the loco edit screen all the way to the top and sort it by "in use", "history" or whatever the new version of that is you should see whichever locos are currently operating on your layout with a green throttle indicator. You can change the green throttle speed with your finger or a mouse. You need to be aware that it might also report any locos which you stopped and removed from the layout with the throttle active.
If you get yourself in the habit of saving the current CS3 operating status before doing an update you can then easily restore the previous version if the update does something you do not like. Plus you will also have the information you placed in the CS3 if it ever fails and its memory is destroyed. I create a current saved version of my CS3 in the CS3 and on a thumb drive.
It is called "history". So sort with that. Shows running and last run. Sadly though obviously the info is stored someplace I have yet to find a way to access it. Would be great for maintenance scheduling to have a record of run time.

Hello
You could also easily change the group on the locomotives you are using to e.g., MISC. and only show that group. (locomotive settings and the info page)
And eg, arrange your CS3 like this:
https://hovland.net/bilder/mj/cs3_screenshot.png

And in addition, if you have an old laptop or tablet etc, you could use it as a supplement using the web browser.
and you can have several windows with different sorting etc.:

It's also recommended to update your CS3 as there have been some big improvements and fixes. And the sorting function has also been improved
The current version is quite stable.
Here is a changelog:http://hovland.net/filer/Maerklin_CS3_Changelog.pdf
Note, it's also expected to be a new major update sometime around April. But it might be delayed.......

Where exactly are you doing this? I have no idea where to find "locomotive settings and the info page"

The description from Märklin is not the best, but just change it like this:

Actually I just figured it out and was helped because I accidentally some time ago incorrectly identified a steam loco as diesel. Too bad you can't change the labels. I would like to have "Bavaria". "Prussia". etc. Of course I can do that by just ignoring the "electric". "diesel" and "misc" designations. That is interesting though.

yes, I would also like to at least have the option to have some extra custom groups.

But I use the groups actively, and also normally add Prussian, Württ and NSB etc as prefixes on the steam locomotive names, in order to get a better sorting on the steam locomotive list.
