Hi,
As you may be aware I am building a 50/60's analogue layout after a hiatus of some years. Since a lot of my marklin is 40 years old one can expect some setbacks. One of these that I had forgotten about was the 7072 points and signals controller. I had forgotten how awful they are... Or at least mine are. This may not be marklins fault as 40 year old points and signals can be expected to be sluggish. Also most of my marklin items have been brought from train fairs or ebay.
Still trying to use them, the casings of some of them are warped or the buttons need excessive pressure to work them. I wonder if anybody has used alternative switch gear to work their points etc which is simple to use ( I mean simple!)and available on the net or here in the UK.
regards
Regards

Viessmann make suitable boxes, Geoff. They also take the older Marklin type plugs.

Ray,

A related question - do the Viessmann 5547 buttons stay depressed when you push them - so you can tell which position the switch (i.e., turnout) has been set to? On the Marklin 7072, they don't stay depressed so you can't glance at it to determine switch position. This is for M track switches, for which the V 5549 or M 72710 won't give feedback indication.

I can glance at the 5202 type M track switches to see the lantern position but there isn't any indicator on the 5207 double slips. Thanks

Dan

Geoff, I have not used this particular type, though I have used others from their range. In my opinion they are better made than the Marklin boxes.

Dan, I'm not sure about your question. On my Marklin control boxes the buttons do stay pushed down in the last position that you press.

On the Viessmann 5547 I don't think the buttons stay down, so in that respect they are not as good. They do a version with LEDs, but it would probably be more complicated to get your turnouts to produce feedback to drive them.
