Märklin 3608 was given to me quite a few years ago for helping a mate of mine in assessing his collection.

I am trying to verify whether it is digital as written on the box.

Confusion starts with the instructions in the box, not for a 3608 (duhBigGrin )

Next step was to dismantle the loco.

My first thought that it isn't digital, as no decoder can be seen, but no reversing switch either if it is analogue.

So, my next question is what is the 'gizmo' circled in red?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Hi Dusan,

Great to see you are still going.

The unit you have been given is the analogue version not the digital version. The thingy you have circled in red is an electronic revising unit.
The digital version had the old 6080 decoder. The runndigital, with your one you would need either the new (ish) 60906 the replace the reversing unit, or an upgrade kit like a 60760. Or a Märklin lok decoder, and motor kit.

As always, there are multiple options.

Cheers…..

Mike

It was 614860 electronic reverse unit for analog operating , I think it was 3389 version in wrong 3608 box.

Hi Dusan/All,

As others have answered, it is an analogue loco with electronic reverser.

If you want to upgrade to make it digital you maybe interested in my article on the 3689 where I changed the yellow LEDs for white LEDs and added cabin and interior lights. I used a LokPilot 3 decoder at the time but I would use a LokPilot 5 decoder which is current at the moment.

I hope the information supplied is of interest.

Still motoring along, finally got my man-cave, built a layout and then tore it down.....I've got to stop thinking more is better and start thinking less is moreBigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Tore it down because I built it like I was a 25 year old instead of building for a 75 year old. Didn't allow for space. (haqrd)Lesson learnt

But learnt a lot and just have to pull my finger out and start again.........can't keep on saying I've got the rest of my lifeBlink Blink Blink
