Hi all,

This is a simple question, but I am easily confused by all the reading and video watching I am doing to get back into the hobby after 37 years.

If, as planned, I am going to use Rocrail via a Schnitte CANBUS to a MBP, and only have a MS2, and I am planning 4 to 6 routes when up and running, and assuming as I watch and read, that Rocrail controls and verifies the turnout positions for the planned route, why do my turnouts NEED a decoder on top of the motor? I mean if Rocrail substitutes me hand controlling the turnouts, why is a decoder needed?

I have to order some more tracks as I did the calculations wrong back in the day and the layout will not be even provisionally sewt up, so I am wondering if I also need to order decoders for the 4-5 switches to be managed by Rocrail.

Many tnx in advance and please take into account I have not done electronics or computing in my 70 years, so my understanding of terms and concepts is very limited.

Santiago

Hi Santiago
Rocrail needs turnouts decoders because all it does is to send orders to your central station or its equivalent (CC Schnitte)
Rocrail check the position of turnouts ONLY if you check the option and assign a position’s feedback sensor
Cheers

Maybe not what you want but CS3 will give you a lot of control over turnouts and locos etc and is easy to operate. Motors and decoders with Marklin C track work well with no wiring and on the CS3 you can set up routes etc. Further software can be added later if needed.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.
