Hello everyone

So far I have had a lovely time on this forum and you are all lovely people

I am looking for this particular model but can’t find a number

Märklin Volvo Container Wagen HO Scale Car Western Germany Railroad

UserPostedImage

It’s a blue one , short European style box car , I think based on a platform they reprinted various stuff on ,

Mainly looking for more info on how to find it

That being said

If you happen to know anyone who has one in Europe please let me know

I wish you all a nice day

Kind regards

David

It is a container wagon rather than a box car. It was probably done as an advertising wagon, and doesn't have a catalogue number as such (there will be an in house Marklin number, and there will also be a Kolls katalog number for it).

Your only hope of finding one will be to keep an eye on auction houses and places like secondplay that you mentioned in another thread. It will probably be one wagon in a lot of five to 10 or more wagons, so won't be cheap to buy as a lot.

Suitable auction houses to follow ...
Munchener Spielzug Auctionhaus
Worms Spielzug Auctionhaus
There will be others as well

Shops like Modellbahn Kramm in Hilden and Hunerbein in Aachen also have second hand sections that may be worth browsing, or sending an email with the picture.

Are you familiar with the so-called Koll's catalog? This is a series of books published by a German guy called Joachim Koll wherein he supposedly lists every single Marklin H0 model that was ever produced.

The model shown above is based on the Marklin 4481 container-carrying vehicle. In "Koll's Spezialkatalog" (one of the various versions of his catalogs) your model is listed with the numbers 91718 and 91719. With regard to model no. 91718, Mr. Koll writes "Serie wurde gestohlen" ("the series was stolen"). I've never encountered this sentence anywhere before. The meaning seems to be that the whole production run (500 units) was stolen either at the factory or at some other facility during the production or delivery process. Model no. 91719 seems to have been produced afterwards as a substitute for 91718 (also 500 pieces).

Koll does not expressly mention any differences between the two versions, so they are probably identical, except that the first batch might have an inscription (printed? perhaps on the container? I don't know, sorry) 255.1 and the second one 255.2.

Happy hunting!

PS. I have just looked at Koll's picture a bit more closely (the pictures are generally very small and mostly black-and-white). It's my impression that on his container there are no inscriptions "sicher. zuverlässig. langlebig." but only VOLVO and something small on the right side. So perhaps Koll's picture or yours is a fake... OhMyGod

Hi David,

I've looked in my Koll's catalogs as well and can't find it. From where did the pictures come? The image's source may be a clue as to where to search for the catalog number. Does the underside of the wagon say "Marklin"?

Wow! Great find bph. There's one on eBay for US$30 currently from Dalton, OH, USA. I searched for "marklin 90701 volvo" as Koll's lists the 4400E as 90701. Much cheaper than the whole 4400E set offering at US$725...!

Good luck, David!

The eBay offering at US$725 is way overpriced, just click on sold items, and you will see what one set was recently sold for (70€). The single Volvo car listing is also a bit expensive, when you also include the shipping cost to Europe.
So if you have some patience, some more reasonable offerings will probably appear on eBay etc.

I have the nice 4400e set and an extra Saab car, but they are not for sale :)
