Help on repacking my purchased trains - Need to know how they were originally packaged

Joined: 24/09/2025(UTC) Posts: 20 Location: Antwerpen, Antwerpen		Hello I bought two trains The Alaska 3 piece F7 marklin nr 3663 The Santa Fe 3 piece F7 ( blue and silver ) marklin nr 3362 In near perfect condition and with all the papers and all the micarta intact even the lid ! Which I was told is usually missing Now the store had the foresight to wrap the trains very securely outside their boxes so the micarta would not break I really appreciate this but now I want to put them in their respective boxes But I can’t figure out what needs to be placed under the trains Is it a piece of cloth or that thing foam sheet I hope I am making sense I rather not place them straight onto the plastic Kind regards David

Joined: 04/02/2011(UTC) Posts: 3,668 Location: Paris, France		Hi David The piece of white felt was covering the loco's body (freshly painter then , thirty years ago) before installing it on its plastic grey bed All paper documents (warranty, user's manual, etc) were in the carton box under the loco's bed Later, Marklin inserted a thin transparent plastic foil before installing the white felt (e.g. Märklin 39241 in 2017) Cheers Jean

Joined: 28/11/2007(UTC) Posts: 8,301 Location: Montreal, QC		Maerklin models had either a plastic inner liner or cradle or a styrofoam cradle into which the models were packed. The white felt, either a continuous sheet or one or more small strips, were used to protect the top and sides of the model. The 3663 Alaska Set had a gray plastic cradle. To place the model back in the box, I would lay out the white felt inside the box, so that it protected the front, side and top of the model as seen here: Use care. In my experience, the plastic cradles used during that period of time were subject to cracking as they could become brittle under certain storage conditions. Regards Mike C
