You need to learn about decoders and read the manual that came with your ESU. The 39579 is an older model which unless upgraded with a new decoder. If not upgraded it came with one of two possible decoders. Probably a slightly newer one for it to have address 59. The manual on page 31 shows how to change the maximum speed on an unchanged 39579.

Hi Kristaki (a first name would be great)
Here are a few answers (just simple user here):
- the loco you mention (39579) is a 2003 loco with an FX decoder. It understands ONLY MM2 (Motorola)
- maybe on your ECOS there is a search fonction like on Märklin's CS2 and CS3.
- if there is not, you must open the loco and set the switches as per the document on page 32 Setting only when power is off
- the factory-set address is 03 so if you never changed it you may still call this address in Motorola format
- there is only one fonction available headlights on or off and there are
- the user's manual of the loco is available here https://static.maerklin....c433a7161c1434542159.pdf

How to use the ECOS?
- searching on Youtube in your language is easy

there are many others.
- you may have to change batteries in your unit (not sure here as I use a Märklin CS3

What is the best Central unit?
- IMO, the ECOS is adapted for non-Märklin users but absolutely not the best choice when you have Märklin devices (locos, track pieces, signals)
- the CS3 is excellent for driving Märklin devices, it is way more recent than the ECOS and allows a full programing of Märklin decoders (mSD3, mLD3 including sound) BUT it is not the cheapest

Loco speed
The loco you have has two adjustment potentiometers. Look at page 31 of the manual.
The left one is for maximum speed and the right one is for inertial adjutment

Cheers
Jean

Hello Johnjean,

Thank you so much. I never would have thought you'd have to open it to find those two tiny screws... I'm a little less stupid :) Thanks.

So the address is 59 (that must have been the one I bought it from in the past.)

I can change it if I want, correct?

However, it won't start anymore. I deleted the loco on Ecos ESU and added address 59. It always takes 3 from the base address number, but where can I find the protocol in a Marklin manual? I took some from the base, it gave 39579, but it won't start, strange.

What's the point of the sniffer? If I may ask, should I set it to 0?

And all that, a big thank you.

I also have the 37467 that won't start and doesn't appear in the Ecos ESU database.

I think I'd be better off with simpler transformers. I find this Ecos ESU actually complicated. I'm looking forward to opening the analog transformer next week. My transformer hasn't been opened for 38 years... :)

Thanks again for your reply, and I hope to read you again. You're very kind to help me with this.

Kristaki had simply put this name, but then you could say Kristaki Hudson.
