Hello,

My current layout does not have a section that is suited well for speed profiling. I’m thinking of setting up a long section on the floor and using this to profile. My questions are:

1) How long should this section it be?
2) I saw there are a few options to use, point to point with two sensors or using 3 sensors, beginning, middle, and end. Is one more accurate than the other?

And 3) I have a spare Marklin cs3, can I use this one or must I use the one that is connect to my layout? I’m assuming I can use this seperate cs3 since the speed profiling is done and saved on the p.c.?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have used Traincontroller for more than 10 years now and in my experience you should use at least 1 meter (about 3 feet?). Also consider the runout lengts that is needed to exit the sensor and to be able to accelerate to speed again. I have always used 3 sensors because it was already set up like that, but I don’t think there’s a difference in accuracy.

I have been working on a diiferent way to do profiling by using an Arduino with one slot sensor and have 3d-printed a 100 mm plate placed on a wagon connected to the engine. This makes the profiling accurate and much faster. I’m working on the documentation of it and will present it when ready.

If you’re using an other controller to do the profiling make sure the voltage are the same.

Greetings from Sweden, Peder

Hello Peder,

What a great idea! I've been using TC since the 90's and never thought about a new approach to the slow "calibration" process.

I'd be very grateful if you would be willing to provide details (as well as the sketch) of your invention.

Cheers,
Andry
