More mummies: In the old port of Hamburg-Harburg is the “Lotsekai” (pilot quay), where three goods wagons are parked:
a 1965 type Gs goods wagon, a 1966 (or later) type Hbis 299 sliding wall wagon and a 1939-1943 type Klms 440 flat wagon.

In the background to the west one can see the former connection via a damaged combined rail and road bridge, the “Holzhafenbrücke” (wood harbor bridge) from 1929/1930, which has been impassable for vehicles since a fire in 2014 and closed to pedestrians and cyclists since 2023. A renovation is planned though.

The 28 miles long Epsom Salts Monorail in San Bernardino County, California, in the USA - opened in 1924 and closed in 1926 - was built to carry epsomite from a deposit in the Owlshead Mountains to a siding of the Trona Railway.

Hard to believe that laying railroad tracks wouldn't have been cheaper and quicker.

An 1950s “Duisburger Generalanzeiger” newspaper article reported that the German Federal Railroad was considering a nuclear locomotive:

In 1955, Dr.-Ing. Nikolaus Gössl from the locomotive manufacturer Krauss-Maffei published a special edition "Thoughts on the utilization of atomic energy for train haulage" in issue 22/1955 of "Die Bundesbahn" on the extent to which atomic energy could be used as an energy source for a locomotive and how this could be realized:

"The PRR built one X30 class 70' 6" box car in Sept. 1931 for the express purpose of shipping fire equipment from the American LaFrance plant in Elmira, N.Y. It was designed to haul their longest, at the time, ladder truck from the plant to any destination on the continent. It featured double 6' Youngstown doors, an end door. As built, the lettering read "EXPERIMENTAL" but was shortly thereafter changed to "AUTOMOBILES"."
