Hi all,

Trying to connect my Mobile Station 2 using a track box. I normally have it connected to my CS2 and when I do, it powers up fine.

My existing powerpack 66361 with trackbox 60113 don't power it up. The 66361 has 18v DC output and confirmed OK with multimeter, so thought the 60113 was faulty.

I borrowed my Dads C trackbox which doesn't have a part number on it (probably from a starter set?)

And a 60052 60VA power supply to go with it which has the correct connector for the trackbox and he believes that is what he used to use with it.

It also doesn't power up the MS2, output voltage is fine from the 60052 though it is AC and not DC unlike the 66361.

So just after clarification here:

Does the trackbox need AC or DC voltage? Why would the C track one have an AC powersupply?

Any suggestions why my MS2 will only power up from the CS2?

I need my MS2 running independently to register some MFX locos that won't register on the CS2 after deletion.

That is a trackbox for the MS1. It only contains a bridge rectifier. It works with either AC or DC.
The trackbox for the MS2 contains a computer with the track format processor (TFP). It also works with either AC or DC.
The MS2 can only work in tandem with a TFP. The MS1 had all electronic parts built-in and worked with an "empty" trackbox.

Try the MS2 trackbox with your MS2. Try a different 60112/60113/60116 (forgot the fourth variation), maybe from fleaBay.

The MS1 can also be used to register mfx locos. Does your dad still have an MS1?
Regards
Tom

Thanks Tom for the lesson on the MS1/MS2.

From your information it does seem that my 60113 MS2 trackbox is the faulty part then.

I am guessing a MS1 won't work with a TFP trackbox either?

He may have his old MS1 around somewhere but I won't have access to it for a few months now unfortunately.

The catalogue number for the track piece you showed is 24088, and as tom (H0) noted it is for the ms1 only.

You can unclip the additional piece on the side and use the piece of track as a normal 24188.
