I recently bought a Marklin scale 1 BR80 loc (coming out of startset 55035).

The locomotive is normally MFX compatible and should be recognized by the mobile station (MS3) when put on rails but it does not.

By using the 'automatic detection' function on the MS3, the system identifies it as a MM2-loc with address 80.

After manually configuring the loc as an MM2 one (at address 80), it can be operated but the commands (increase or decrease of the speed, light on/off, sound activation...) are only activated by the loc after putting off the track current for at least 6-7 seconds and putting it on again.

Any idea about the problem root cause and solution?

Embedded decoder looks to be a 'Marklin specific one' and I could not find many explanation on it.

Should the decoder be damaged but in such a case, why is it still operating with such a strange behavior?

Should the decoder be replaced, what would be the most fitted one?

Thanks beforehand for any help or advice.

It sounds like the mfx function in the decoder may have been turned off.

The instruction manual says that the ABV is adjustable, but gives no indication of how to adjust it other than turning it off and on with a function.

As it won't recognise mfx the decoder may have been damaged, and this may have also caused your other symptom of the functions not working without interrupting loco power.

Thanks for your answer.

ABV can indeed explain that the loco does not react immediately on the speed commands but not why sound functions are activated/deactivated only after Power OFF/ON...
I am afraid that you are right and that the decoder could be damaged.
Any suggestion for a replacing one that is MFX compatible?
