Hello, I recently purchased a close to mint in the box Marklin 55281 steam locomotive.
I am wanting to upgrade it to digital sound and would also like to also add dynamic smoke (from the stack).
Wondering from the experts what digital decoder you would go with and what smoke.
I have the Marklin mobile station 2 for control and it is new to me as I come from the digitrax world (HO scale) so I am also wondering about what brand works best with it.

Thank you for your advice,
Todd

Cool

Same answer as last year - and I assume you mean 55981, since there's no 55281 BigGrin

Be aware that the dynamic smoke uses a lot of power, so your mobile station might not be enough to power it.

I know I procrastinate, but I think that was a different project. This one is for track power, the last one I did was a marklin/airwire battery....

Maybe not, lol, I am getting older...BigGrin

Also, I am looking at the box right now and it is 55281 it is a German 2-8-0 with a 3 axle tender in black and red.

I will check out your link, thanks for the help BigGrin

Lol, you are correct, I did ask this before, however I am partially right as well because that was for a blue p8, this is a different locomotive :)

Thanks again for the quick link.

You are 100% right; I must have been too busy and on my phone; I even have the 55280 myself,
only difference between yours and mine is that mine is DB and yours is DRG BigGrin

I think yours is more rare, it was only produced / in the catalogue in 1997 and 1998,
and mine was produced / in the catalogue from 1996 to 2000 ThumpUp

When you have so many trains that you forget what you have and don't have that's a good thing, although the wife might feel differently :)
