I have the Marklin #4998 HO DB 'Gesellschaftswagen' Dance Car. It was purchased second hand and the car body is all beat up.
Does any one know the catalog number of the same passenger car, or car with same body without the dancing add-ons, that I can swap the shell body. It has close couplers. Thanks a lot. I think it was released early 2000.
I would think Marklin would have picked a passenger car that they were already producing and selling, and put the electronics into it. Thanks again.

There is at least one of these coaches in the auction mentioned in this post. There are also a couple of the 4999 panorama cars. But for your original question, the 4998 was produced in 1990 and 1991, and used the 4175 as the basis of the coach.

Thanks kiwiAlan. I actually do have the 4175. I just took it out of our carton storage box in my car port/garage. The body length of the 4175 is the same as the 4998. The road number is the same in the 4175 and the 4998 and both have Gesellschaftwagen written on them. However, the 4175 has the regular coupler and the 4998 has the close coupler which could make the bottom black chassis/frame different. I will take apart both of the 4175 and 4998 in the next couple of days to see what are different in the black bottom frame, and whether interchangeable.
Is there one that has the body/bottom black frame that also has the close coupler and similar to the 4998?? Thanks.

The 4175 has the old bogies, old coach fixation (screws) while the 4998 (AFAIR) has the shell secured to the body by the gangway connections and has close couplers. Maybe the closest one would be the 42921 Rollende Weinstube coach, which is also a Gesellschaftwagen WGm842.

Thanks for noting that they were introduced in Marklin catalog 1989/90. Mike C and KiwiAlan.
New 4998 Gesellschaftswagen, 10 5/8", 27.0 cm, close coupler, uses 7330 lighting kit. New 4291 cream and green 1st class, 10 5/8", 27.0 cm, close coupler, uses 7330 lighting kit. New 4292 cream and green 2nd class, 10 5/8", 27.0 cm, close coupler, uses 7330 lighting kit.
Interestingly, the 4999 vista dome is also new item here for the year, and has regular coupler. Also note, all the cars here have 4 digit catalog numbers.
Well, now I know what to look for in the used market and Ebay. Thanks so much. I do not mind if the cars do not have Gesellschaftswagen printed on the side.

4292 has the same window configuration, but is a compartment coach and not a converted Entertainment car like the 4998 or the 42921.
