I am moderately scared that they harmed the Class A3 tooling to make that. Here's hoping it's a mix of unharmed reuse and new tooling; and the chance of future liveries of Scottie (or even other A3's or A1's) remains intact. If they did modify the tooling, then I hate it on principle. We need more British H0! :D Outside of that, I honestly have mixed feelings. I think rather than the Steampunk Hornby, a better comparison is the Beatles Hornby - where they took their cheapest, oldest, lowest quality budget toy trains (without DCC sockets, without NEM couplings, etc); put very low quality decals of the Beatles on them, and tried to charge "mid-tier HST train set" pricing for it. Which is also true of the Steampunk Hornby, of course. These are all way more expensive, but have at least some meaningful connection to the band (the closest connection between the Beatles and trains was the narration of Thomas the Tank Engine) and are actually modelled specifically for the run rather than just being a borderline scam reselling old trash - which is the kindest description of Hornby Beatles I can give. As freelance models - I'd actually be tempted by the cannon and bell wagons if they were free from the AC:DC branding; they'd make interesting oddities to have running in a freight rake down a small branch line to a temporary halt by a church or a folly. So it's all positive on that front. My only real gripe with it is just that I'm finding the whole "brand X but it's model trains" trend kinda weird. Shout out to the coke bottle Lowmac there, too. Not gonna lie though, I must not cast stones from my glass house, because I'd be one of the first people celebrating reproductions of things like the Hunger Games trains;   Or a Half Life Razor train, or a H0 Ivor the Engine, or ...oh dear, there's a OO Ivor coming out this year, and since it's a fictional loco there's no exact "scale" for it to be out of... New reason to dislike the Black Ice: it just cost me 250 quid at Rapido.

I'm 15!"  ) - then I went to college in New Jersey in the early 1970s, right when KISS blew on to the scene, followed closely by AC/DC (How wonderfully MäTrix ), and just a wee bit of Ozzy. Yet...I still like the Rat Pack...go figure! And the only concerts I have attended were 1 Edgar Winter Group and 1 Maynard Ferguson (back in the 70s) (then marriage, kids, Mr Rogers, and Thomas the Tank Engine ) Whisper Mode Off |

There's an interview with Bon Scott somewhere, where he talks about it. Edgar Winter Group = "niche" - Maynard Ferguson = "who?". In the remoteness of Sydney, KISS was the first concert I went to. Others in order: Robert Plant; Police; Sting; U2; Queen; Queen (yes twice on the Works tour) U2; U2; U2. Joe Jackson was in there somewhere. I'm still finding an AC/DC train a bit weird, no doubt there will be an AC/DC Vespa and it might sell as well as this one. |

Even if I'm not an AC/DC fan, I kind of like the concept. but "The Flying AC/DC" locomotive is not for me. I have the 39968, and I hope that the tooling has not been damaged in the making of this, as i hope to see more A3 and some proper coaches. Hopefully, it will bring some AC/DC fans into the hobby. and make a nice profit for Märklin.

Figures to go with! Yes! It may be just me, but in looking at the Scotsman and AC/DC loks, there are a few similarities, but I rather doubt they are using the full Scotsman tool (double stack, single tear-shaped dome, walk plate below the name arch, tender is more detailed, buffers present, headlamps on buffer beam) for AC/DC (single American style stack, 2 domes, walk plate above name arch, less detail on tender, buffers absent, American "cow catcher/filleter", headlamp center on front ash door) My random observations, may or may not be all there , like me... I have been incorrect before |

You also have the Jethro Tull and Locomotive Breath. The German group Bonfire made a "recent" cover of it, ref: in the video, they have the prototype for the Märklin 37000.001, SVG BR 212 311 (SVG or Stauden Verkehrs Gmbh is a private rail company)

Mike I wondered about the coaches when the first FS was put out. I could be wrong but the original FS has some fairly unique coaches that wouldn't get a re-run in any other livery/context. Happy to be corrected on that. Let's not forget that the first two were issued as 'museum' pieces and they represent periods well after the Era 2 Scotsman prototype. My guess is that they've exhausted the viability of this; maybe A3s in different liveries with some mainstream coaches will come later, but I doubt it. |

Not really unique - but each line in the UK was run by a local monopoly until WW2; after which they were pseudo-nationalised for the war effort, and then actually nationalised in 1948. As an LNER loco, FS (looking very different from today) would have mostly pulled "Gresley Teak" and "Thompson Teak" coaches, plus "Pullmans" and possibly occasional freight, then in her later years whatever-BR-had-on-hand; and in preservation mainly the standardised BR Mk1 coaches built in the 50's and 60's. Gresley's and Thompsons would only be common behind LNER locomotives. So it's admittedly a pretty restrictive prototype to try and sell. The Mk1's were widely used, which is why both Jouef (1960's) and Lima (1970's) prioritised them for their attempts to make British H0 a thing. And hence the excellent suggestion of K-Type Pullmans by @bph! Those were introduced in the 1920's, were used in many regions of the UK and are still in use on limited services today. So they could be used prototypically with a wide range of prototypes - including (with some repainting into UK livery) Marklin's existing Class 66. Or by extension, ESU and Mehano's. A pretty easy sale! I guess the one nice thing is that between early BR "flexibility" and the practicalities of preservation - Lima/Playcraft Mk1's, Lima Mk2's (even in B&W) and even the Fleischmann Bulleids have all run behind a BR Green A3 at some point. There's a common refrain on the British H0 society mailing list of "Where Apple Green", which was her most common preservation livery until the early 2000's. So if they didn't break up her tooling to make Black Ice, I'd expect to see Apple Green at the turn of 2026 to "complete the set". Doubt there'll be coaches though, sadly. But the real question for this thread - would the Black Ice look less weird with British Pullmans, or with NSW MFE coaches like Scottie pulled in AC:DC's homeland?

Less weird isn't possible. The flatcar loads should have been bluetoothed microspeakers and a bank of leds for a mobile lightshow. I wonder if the cannons use smokeoil (or snakeoil)? |

That got a giggle from me, thanks! Though as a serious analysis - I guess the speakers would take away from the DCC Sound clips that are no doubt embedded in the loco. And worse, what if someone used the bluetooth to play Wolfmother instead of AC:DC!?
