We had a severe thunderstorm last night. One of the main electrical panel circuit breakers was ruined. Either lightning entered through the ground or the outside overhead high tension wires.
Our laundry dryer is dead, no power on. The surge protector didn't help.
My CS 3 is fine but the green dot is gone. My layout is on the same circuit as the dryer.
I'm nervous to connect it to the Internet. Having router issues too. Wireless Bluetooth works but not my desktop which has a cable internet connection. Also lost my vintage Sony integrated amplifier and a year old Technics turntable which is under warranty. Same no power on condition for both. Amp on surge protector and the turntable on a separate power strip that was off.
Graphic equalizer is fine, as is the CD player. Both have mechanical power switches.
I will reply back when router issue is solved.
Thanks if anyone has input.

Yes, you need to address first the router issue.

Hi,

Sad to hear of your problems! Resolve the router - let the CS chat to Marklin over the internet and the dot would reappear me thinks.

I usually unplug things from the wall when lighting is coming - that little 2mm airgap on wall switches is no match for a massive amount of energy coming down/up the wires if lighting hits close enough. if the energy is big enough, that airgap happy passes electricity as the space between the contacts breaks down and behaves like a wire. There is a reason why massive power lines have lots of insulators between the cable and tower. Electricity jumps.

: )

When a lighting storm appears you must shut off all electrical power in the house. If your CS3 have problem you have problem.

Sorry to hear about marklinist5999's problems. We are all facing the dire consequences of what happens in the world now. Some countries and regions more at risk than other. (And like stevend says; just turning off the power on the outlets won't cut it).

Back in the day of hi-fi and stereo some components had little fuses for protection. You might check to see if yours do. Sadly there is not much you can do to protect electrical components from electrical strikes. Most surge protectors just can't handle that much surge.

Yes rfil, thanks. Mosr fuses today are internal, and not glass. It's the relays that seem to more at risk than mechanical power switches. The dryer board has no fuse. Not worth the cost of the part after 15 years. Getting just a plain low end Whirlpool with a mechanical timer.

Sorry i mean to unplug all electric household appliance.
If you did had CS3 connected to power supply and the power supply still plugged to the wall socket, there is serious problem if a flash light hits against cable lead to the house.
For some year ago under summer we did had lighting storm so i decides to unplug all household appliance.

Yes Goofy, now I know this. When I booted the CS 3 today, the green dot is back. It works fine. I guess the cord on the protection strip is long enough to buffer the spike. I have lived in several different places since the 1970s and have never had anything electronic damaged from lightning before. My dad knew electricity very well and told me that a brown out was worse than a black out for refrigerators and other devices.
I was surprised that a laundry dryer is still made today with a standard electric timer. There is no washing machine anymore which has one.
