I've seen some locomotives that have white lights in the front and red lights in the back and then they change when the loco changes direction. Is there any other way to do that besides putting in a red and a white led in each end of the loco? Another side question, what size led (3mm, 5mm etc) is commonly put into locos? Thanks as always... Jeff

I am by no means very knowledgeable on this but I believe that some leds can produce more than one color.

I converted some Märklin locos from yellow LEDs to white LEDs - they were the 0603 SMD type, 0.75 mm by 1.5 mm. I also used 0603 when adding cab lights to some locos. Some Märklin locos have red and white 0603 side by side, serving the same plastic light channel. There are dual red/white LEDs with three pins that can be used for conversions of older locos. |

Hi Jeff Märklin uses more and more surface mounted device (SMD) LEDs very small in size (1 mm in lentgh) For the replacement of a yellow LEDs on a Kittel, I have used pre-wired bi-color leds I think the used LEDs were similar to these https://www.ebay.de/itm/19616375...D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8rAn_W5ZQThey MUST be with a common anode or with 4 wires Using bi-color chips w/o wires is quite tricky Cheers Jean |
