Their major problem is they are not producing anything really new, just using ancient molds with reworked liveries, apart from the Coronation train which is a stunning item, but made in very limited quantities.

Is the real issue all their acquisitions? They bought a ton of dead model railroad companies. Those brands have all been revitalized but I suspect the cost was significant. I hate to say it, but when you are in a fading business, the last thing you should do is buy all the dead miscreants on the floor. They died for a reason - a shrinking market.

Well they have been selling off the Bassett-Lowke range of Steam Punk items at greatly discounted prices because they didn't sell. I hadn't realised Hornby had acquired the Bassett-Lowke name until I saw an item about this range going very cheap.

I was thinking more along lines of Rivarossi, Jouef, Lima and Arnold. That is quite a bunch of acquisitions.

They also have Airfix which are low cost kits and again these do not sell well and many have to be discounted on their site. Not sure how the younger generation feel about building kits but for the older folk Tamiya have a lot of the market and the quality is way better. I would think that in the UK they are the main sellers of model trains and Marklin of course does almost nothing thanks to Gaugemaster whio really have little interest in the brand. Hornby will stagger on for a bit but will in time give up unless there is new demand for the product.

They also have Pocher who produce 1/8 scale cars, and of course Scaletrix slot cars. I think they also have some other obscure brand names in their stable as well.

But Airfix has very much sentimental value for me. I build an army of tanks and other vehicles, airplanes etc.
Big battles in my room with my friends.
Of course a lot of the tanks had major damage after a while, just like in real life.
Good memories. :)

Mike Ashley has, I suspect, very little interest in the product and even less emotional attachment.

As a Glasgow Rangers fan we had a lot of court cases with Ashley who had an interest in selling the tops and clothing items with the club crest etc.
However who knows maybe he has a model railway.

Does anyone know if Hormby has made any profit yet on their TT scale models?

Along with Rivarossi, Lima and Jouef.

Once were warriors, now all very obscure today.
Perhaps Simba Dickie could pick up the Hornby International range and revive these ailing HO marks that have fallen on hard times?
Fine, young, Tweed salseman that y'are

The only really good items that Hornby produced recently were the magnetic couplers. I have bought quite a few of them and they are amazing, much better than the Marklin, Roco etc. ones. The only thing I noticed about the magnetic couplers were that they could easily pull out of the NEM sockets, so I discovered that a gentle filing enables them to stay in the sockets much better. I wrote to Hornby to suggest that they modify the production but I didn't hear back, so I guess their not interested in improving the product, which shows why the company is not doing well.
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!
