Hello All, Does anyone have suggestions or actual experience in replacing the Marklin V100 (37176) current-conducting couplers (Function F1) with Telex couplers? This is an original Marklin MFX loco with factory decoder. BTW, I have the Marklin decoder programmer tool. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andry  |

I dont have that model, but before you wire up a telex on the same aux, check if the coupler wired to track pickup shoe using a TLP172A relay or wired up other "quirky" ways etc. ref: https://moba-hgh.de/modellbahn/tipps-tricks-infos/1718-tuning-der-rauchsatzansteuerung-jetzt-raucht-s-richtig.htmle.g the 39781 has two such relays, one for the smoke generator and one for the coupler. (I plan to add Telex to my 212, 37 series sometime in the future, on that the aux 3 and 4 is free) You can't use a 60971 to change a factory-fitted decoder. But if you have access to e.g. a cs3, etc you can change the mapping. And if you have access to a cs3 that is connected to a pc, you can change/modify the decoder project with the mdecodertool.

I'll open up my V100 and will verify the circuitry. The loco is diesel, so no smoke generator, therefore I suspect that the current-conducting couplers would be connected directly to track power. It's too bad that I can't use my PC and the Decoder Programming Tool to remap the factory decoder. I'm not sure why Marklin won't allow its customers to do this. Hello,
I opened the loco and removed the MFX+ decoder. I plugged the decoder onto my Marklin Decoder Programmer and with the mDecoderTool3 tested the decoder. Because this is a Marklin factory decoder, I could not readout the project, but could only test it. When the loco is in Forward drive, the front lights and AUX1 light up. When in Backward drive, the rear lights and AUX2 light up.
On the piggyback board (i.e., where the MFX+ decoder plugs in on the loco), there is a black wire from one pad connected to the front current-conducting coupler. There is another black wire (from a different pad) connected to the rear current-conducting coupler.
If I replace the current-conducting couplers with Telex couplers, I will need to connect two wires from each Telex coupler -- one wire to an AUX (Function) pad and another wire to U+. I guess that I can re-use the same pads that are used for the current-conducting couplers. However, the function for current-conducting couplers (F1) is not a momentary function. I don't think that I can change this because I can't reprogram this factory decoder. Does this mean that I'll be stuck with needing to always remember to switch F1 "off" after a short time so that I don't burn the Telex? Any other problems with my approach?
