Hi all,

I have a Marklin analogue steam locomotive (item no 3095) that was converted to digital, using the mSD3 decoder from Marklin with sound.

I wasn’t too confident to do it myself so I sent it away across to the other side of Australia to someone who knows what they are doing.

Being an old locomotive that’s been stored away for years, it’s needed a good clean & service as well. The person who worked on it did an awesome job doing that and was able to fit the digital components in the tight space.

Everything works fine however, the issue began I was started using the iTrain software. When the locomotive is heading forwards, it’s indicated on the software as going backwards. I guess this is something I never paid attention to on the CS3.

It should be noted that my other locomotives (some new and others converted) do not have the same issue.

Reading the manual and checking out some of the other posts, the direction of travel can be changed by amending CV29.



Unfortunately my understanding of CVs and bits is basic. To be honest I found it a bit frustrating!

I was hoping someone would guide me through the steps to change the setting using the CS3.

Thanks for your reply.

I know what you mean about Rocrail, I used it briefly before switching to iTrain. Unfortunately I’ve asked the question in the iTrain forum and it seems that there is an issue with the locomotive itself.

When I compare it with the other locomotives I have, it’s the only one in the fleet that has the opposite direction. So it might be that the wires were attached the wrong way around or it’s just a programming issue.

I really don’t want to be resold wrong and reattaching the wires, so prefer to just amend the CV value.

The only time I've found it necessary to actually change the loco direction is with some railcars where the front axle has the traction tyres, which prevents S88 detection for the front of the locomotive.
However I then had the problem that if the loco hit a dirty spot and momentarily lost power, it would then actually take off in the wrong direction!
The only solution was to change the motor polarity to the decoder inside the locomotive.

Hi Eddie,

as you converted the locomotive using a mSD3 decoder you can do the following:

Ensure that the locomotive is registered as mfx. Note: If you are using DCC, change to mfx for making the configuration changes and then change back to DCC afterwards.

- On the main screen of the CS3 click on the red button at the bottom in the middle
- Under Edit choose Edit Locos
- Choose your converted 3095 loco
- Choose Configuration and wait until the config has been read. It takes about 30 seconds.
- Click on the little triangle in front of Motor
- Scroll down to CV29 Direction Reversal
- Click on the little circle for Motor/Light and wait a sec until the change has been stored. Note: Filled circle means Reversal, unfilled will disable it again
- Leave the screen by clicking the checkmark at the top.
