In which order should I connect my 43919 "Pop Colors" Express Train Passenger Car Set? Is there a standard format to follow in reality?

Cheers
Stephen

Search the item number(s) and find the photos of the train. Red on the left, two orange, then blue and green.

The picture on the cover often indicates the sequence. Or in the manual if there is one. Since I bring my trains to shows in travel boxes I started numbering the sequence with magic markers on the bottom of the cars.

Märklin shows this, as Mr Marklinist says:43919.png
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

I have the Hobby tinplate Popwagen Set from the 90’s and put them on the track in the order they came in the box… works for me 😉

EVEN with what Märklinist says, and the photo supplied, I think it can still be interpreted in different ways.
I would run the 2 orange cars after the loco, then the restaurant, then the 2 blue ones, having the luggage compartment at the very end of the train.

In my own set of popwagen (not the one in the photo), there is 1 orange (1st cl.) waggon with red end-of-trainlights. I moved these lights to one of the blue waggons, and run it; green luggage, orange, restaurant, blue, blue. -Just to make it a little DIFFERENT to the standard Märklin layout.

Presumably the reverse order would be fine as well since the trains would have had to work in and out of terminal stations. I doubt they would have shuffled all the coaches around before departing.

Marklin HO using M track. Now reverted to analogue as I find it has more character and is more fun...... and I understand it!

I was told that back in the days of steam the rule was the higher the cost of the ticket the further from the engine. So the passenger cars would be, from the engine, third class, second class, first class.

That is absolutely true. In the US it was baggage cars and postal cars first, then coach cars followed by the dining car and the private room cars. The final car was usually an observation car which also had the largest and most luxurious rooms on the train.

Not true for Germany. Order is reversed at every terminus station on the route.

Long distance trains usually have coach numbers - next to the destination board or as part of the destination board.

I usually refer to the coach numbers. There may be odd numbers for trains with through-coaches.

By 1970, most DB and other European trains were normally composed with 1st Class coaches, then restaurant, then second class coaches. If a baggage coach was included for the entire route, it would normally run at one to the other end of the train. This might also be the case for a baggage/mail coach running between two major stops on the route. On some routes, a combined baggage/compartment coach would replace a second class coach in the consist.
