Dear All -

Apologies for the long post, but here the details matter and I don't want to leave anything out for analysis by and advice from experienced users.

I recently converted a Rivarossi (Hornby HR2933S) E645 to 3 rail use. It contains a LokSound 5 21MTC decoder. I successfully ran it using DCC, with full functionality, for a few weeks with Rocrail through the Märklin 60116 Gleisbox using the CAN (mbus) protocol. I then -- unwisely as it turns out -- ran it without Rocrail using the Gleisbox + MS2 controller. The MS2 discovered that the loco could talk MFX and reconfigured it for ease of use with the MS2. After this, I could not got Rocrail to run it as before with the Gleisbox + CAN/mbus (in other words, without the MS2) using either the MFX or the DCC protocols.

I took the loco in to my friendly local dealer who -- with difficulty he said -- reprogrammed it (with an ECOS controller) to run under DCC control again, and drove it on the shop layout. Returning the loco to my Rocrail setup, it now exhibits the dreaded "flashing lights" syndrome described in sec. 7.2.1.1 of the LokSound chip's instruction manual. (In addition to the flashing lights, if run, the loco moves while the lights are on and then stops when the lights are off.) According to the manual, this is a mismatch between the speed steps used by the decoder and by Rocrail. However, I selected 14, 28 and 128 speed steps in Rocrail, powered off the track, powered it back on, switched on the lights, ran the loco, with the same result: on - off, start - stop.

Any advice on how to restore the decoder/loco to its previously full functionality? (I only have Rocrail to reprogram the decoder.)

Dear Mike & PeFu -

Thanks for the advice.

To summarise: CV08 -> 8 does a factory reset; then CV47 -> 1 turns off all protocols except DCC. I had to set CV1 to change the DCC 3 default to my preferred address as well.

After some careful testing of getting and setting of CV values with Rocrail + Gleisbox, the loco is back in operation.
