Can one connect 2 S88 LINK (L88) units together, if so how

[newbie] I bought 2 S88 LINK units 60883 in error. Can I link them together anyway, so they act as master/slave? (is it useful) If so, what to do with the 2nd black cable that is fixed to the seconds S88 LINK (L88)? Thank you so much for your time and help! Diederik

I'd try with power supply to only one l88 unit and cable to 2nd l88 (carries power). Make sure to tell cs that l88 has 1 slave attached. Ben |

You should have received a ribbon cable which is for linking the two.

Condios,
you have to connect the two black cables from the two L88 to the CS3. I guess that you will need a 60145/60125 terminal box and one separate power supply (66361/66360) for each L88. Else you can you have to exchange the L88 to a S88. Maybe your dealer can help you.

Interesting that the manual does not show how to connect two link S88s. Not sure if that is because it does not work or they assume no one would buy two of them. You might just assume that the second Link is just a second S88. The instructions for setting them up are detailed in the 03093 manual. There might also be a YouTube tutorial.

CS3 has settings menu to identify connected number of s88s to master l88. I use 2 'slaves' ( unfortunate nomenclature). Not sure what the default setting is. |

That is a laaaarge layout. I have 3 units that serve 40+ feedback tracks. Already feels like wires everywhere. I use 2 buses for 2 s88s on one l88. Using Rocrail, I have about 18 zones, each using two sensors. Planned this mostly before laying track, saving lot of effort this time. One thing I love about Rocrail is its sensor monitor that identifies sensing track instead of requiring cs3 ID for each one. |

The answer is no, you cannot connect one 60883 to another 60883. You may connect them both to your layout controller network (system bus) via either - Terminal (60125/60145) - CS2 60213/4/5 - rear 7 pin port (has x 1) - CS3 60226 (system bus connected) - rear 7 pin port (has x 2) - CS3+ 60216 (system bus connected) - rear 7 pin port (has x 1) IMHO Yes, For a , physically, large OR modular/sectonal layout it can save a lot of wiring Each L88 (without S88s) can support (up to) 64 push buttons if you have mimic boards Quote: ... what to do with the 2nd black cable that is fixed to the seconds S88 LINK (L88)?
As above, the black cable (with 7 pin device plug) connect to the system bus via various options. Related: EACH L88 needs power, this is designed to be a 6636x device from Marklin. the power required is nowhere need the 2Amps available for most operations. I have shared the 18V with m83/m84 devices (assessing the load as needed) |

You're absolutely right! I tried and tested this today, and I it cannot be done. Well, at least one can work at 12V and the other at 5V (because it has S88's attached to bus 3).
Thank you so much for your explanation! It is very concise, and completely agrees with what I have tested today! (So I can confirm all you wrote above is as it is).

Up front You will find statements from Marklin indicating that their 6088 and 60880 (as well as 60881/60882) will operate with the 12V of the L88 From my memory the 5V references have only ever come up in relation to products form other vendors/DIY kits Further, (deliberately reading between the lines) the reference to Bus3 appears to be implying exclusiveness of 6088/60880 It is quite possible to put 60881/2 on this bus using the 60884. An while Marklin have not specifically brought out a cable for the other way around , the 60883 documentation readily provides the pinout to create an adapter yourself. Yes I am aware of the graphic in the later 60884 manual that indicates that 60881/2's should not be connected behind 6088/60880's but it works . However the same graphic contradicts the statement in the 60883 manual that bus 3 is for 60880/6088 |
